Real life is always more fascinating than fiction to me. If you love the art of the written word, might I suggest the true tale of 'The Professor and the Madman' by Simon Winchester a.k.a. 'The Surgeon of Crowthorne: A Tale of Murder, Madness and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary'

Simon Winchester is a prolific historian and an artful writer. His book on Krakatoa and how the world was affected gives insight to many different things about social psychology, technological advancement, religion and science. Simon Winchester relates his own scientific training with stories of research expeditions he did while in college.

Try The Lord of the Rings or The Silmerilian. All long and interesting reads.

Read The Map That Changed the World by Simon Winchester. It really opens your eyes on the founding of geology and stratigraphy, each of which, after all, led to many discoveries that backup evolution, plate tectonics and other natural phenomena.
