I'm sure there's a thread around here dismantling that stuff. Wink

Welcome, I'm in a very similar situation and I know it's difficult. I hope it all works out for the best!

Welcome! The thought process you describe is similar to what I went through in moving from fundamentalist Christianity to atheism.

(I love that song, too.)

Considering that you're still half-way connected to the church through your family and friends, you may find yourself encountered with some convincing bits of scripture from those who will invariably attempt to persuade you back into the church. If you don't feel confident in answering them right off the bat, or you feel like you're being badgered by them, kindly tell them that you need to think about their question to offer them the most thoughtful answer. Then march yourself straight onto this website and just about everyone here will be happy to help you come up with alternate perspectives to the Christian position.

Good luck on the road ahead. Smile

Thanks everyone for your kind welcoming words. I especially appreciate some of the humor Smile.

I may indeed need to post specific questions to challenges from friends and family as I fear my joining these boards and a local atheist group has triggered a chain reaction in my home that has caught me by surprise but that's a different topic so I'll leave it for else where.

Thanks again for the kind welcoming response!
