Breaking Bad Mafia -sign ups welcomed!
Pre cook prep phase,

GLIDING o'er all, through all,
Through Nature, Time, and Space,
As a ship on the waters advancing,
The voyage of the soul--not life alone,
Death, many deaths I'll sing.

So this is my second attempt at a mafia game.Angel This one will be based on the TV show 'Breaking Bad'. Don't worry, there will be no spoilers and you don't really need to know much about the show except that, it is about a highschool teacher that decides to cook meth to get rich quick. His actions have stricken the town in which we all live... half are users and half are cooks.

This is a TV show and for this season you will all be guest actors. This being the "Mafia" episode, you will each take on the persona of a famous TV actor/actress and fulfill your role according to a specific movie character. I as the director will give players a famous actor persona and a specific movie character reference that will loosely coincide with their game role. However, you are free to be as elusive with your persona as you wish but, and here's the catch, you must quote your true persona on the board in order to increase your odds of successful night actions. This could be tricky! Say if your persona is Marlon Brando playing Don Corleone in the movie 'The God Father', obviously you can't be forthright about it but you would want to somehow insert a direct movie quote somewhere into your board banter in order to cook or use meth to increase your night action odds. Take the phrase "Especially since your interests don't conflict with mine"... it's a direct movie quote and would qualify to increase your odds as long as you show me proof of the quote in a PM.

Do I have to play my persona on the board? No. You can lie about anything you want, this is a game of deceit after all, and you can pretend to be any actor or character role you want as long as you ultimately insert a quote from your true role within your board banter during the day and show it to me, then your night actions are full proof Wink

So, how will this work? Odds are 50/50 on night 1 and increase in your favor each successive night by 10%, i.e. 50/50 - 60/40 - 70/30 and so on. You can increase these odds to 100% by writing a full quote from your true movie persona as "board banter" at anytime as long as you PM me the quote for recognition. Out of 12 players, 6 can cook and 6 can use. This only works if cooks equal users and vice versa. This will be a risky business, as it is in real life, but can pay off by accruing a build up for future nights. in other words, if you display 3 quotes on day 1 you are covered for 3 nights as long as there is another cook/user counterpart.

Summation: This is a TV show and players are based on real actors.
  • Your acting role is your persona, choose to play it straight or be anyone you want as clever board banter.
  • You will be a cook or a user, and as such, 100% night action odds are only invoked by risking a direct quote from your true persona on the board and as long as there is a cook or user to buy from or sell to.
  • Your Mafia/Townie role is as a player, and as a player you will have certain night actions to fulfill.

Game Agenda: Vote to eliminate suspicious players each day as the Mafia players eliminate one player each night.

Rules can be found here:
Night Abilities: Can only be used on a person once in a row excluding kill and cop-investigate abilities. If a killer is roleblocked one night the killer can target the same person on the next night.

Successful Kills: The victims role will be revealed as well as how that person was killed which may give some clues as to who killed that person.

Mafia Faction Kill: The mafia may kill 1 person per night. They choose one person to be killed and one person among themselves to do the killing. PM and decide between yourselves and the designated leader will be then PM me at night with the mafias action.

Saved by the protector: Revealed that someone was saved as well as who was saved.

Voting: Everyone has 1 vote each. No double or voteless voters this time around.

Role Details: Only one role will be assigned per player in this game.

Basic Player roles:
Town Mayor: You may target another player to reveal your role to (a PM from me would be a solid confirmation) but you won't know who they are, or... you can steal a vote as a politician.

Local news reporter: Each night you gain insight on actions that have occurred but, you won't know who specifically did it. Or, you can target a player and find out if they are a cook or a user.

Two Bit Attorney: Only you will know the stats of cooks and users each night. You may also choose to acquit yourself or another player from being lynched during the day (done secretly via PM to me). Cannot do it twice for anyone though.

Highschool Administrator: As a prominent member of the community, you are "in tune" with all of the current gossip among the town. As such, you can warn players you choose if they have been targeted each night.

Football Coach: You are a watcher among watchers and players of the game. You will notice certain anomalies and suspicious behavior from members of your community.

Bus driver: As the bus driver you will target players who passage your vehicle to specific destinations. This allows you to be a tracker.

Baker: The Baker is also a poisoner. Your poison is arsenic so targets will need to be targeted two times before your deadly concoction will work. You can choose the same target twice in a row or, wait and target them again at any point in the game. A poisoned player will know that they will die and will have one final day to beg for the antidote from the doctor.

TV repairman: You are the Thief. Target a player to steal from each night and gain clues about targets role or persona. Can target a player multiple times in a row to learn deeper details.

High-school student: You are the serial killer but I'm going to make your odds terrible, you are still in high school after all, unless you cook/use ;-) Can also choose to not target anyone each night.

Cop: The target's true persona will be revealed. If a player is investigated a second time, the cop will find out that players role. If the cop then investigates that same target for a third time, the cop will have solid confirmation of players faction.

Jailer /Deputy: You may roleblock a target as the jailer. You become the cop if the cop is killed. The deputy receives all information on a target that a cop has investigated twice.

Forensic Investigator: Learns who has targeted that person throughout the game. (person targeted by the forensic investigator must be dead)

Protection roles:
Bodyguard: Can protect one person per night or protect themselves. Your target cannot be killed by other roles except poison. If your target is targeted by a direct kill, you will die instead. Choose any target each night or choose yourself only every other night.

Prostitute: Your powers of seduction inclines your target to act in secret thus enabling them to perform their role with stealth. This means your target can't be watched or tracked but they will seem highly suspicious if investigated by the cop on that night.

Doctor: You may target a player each night for assistance if they are killed. Success of recovery depends on your odds. Or your night action can be to give the antidote to anyone claiming to be a poisoned player on the previous day. This will also protect them from becoming poisoned in the future.

Mafia Specific roles:
Heisenberg: Leader of the mafia. Appears innocent to initial cop investigations. Second cop investigations will reveal that the Godfather is indeed the Godfather.

Drug dealer: Member of the mafia with no specific powers. You must choose a target each night to push your meth onto. If they are a cook, you cancel their odds. If they are a user you give them odds instead.

Usurper: Becomes the Godfather when the Godfather is killed. Wins if they become the Godfather (can't become godfather if killed before the godfather) AND the mafia win.

Vandal: Choose a target each night to lean on and intimidate. This may be revealed in the story line as vandalism in the community. Cannot choose fellow Mafia.

Framer: If his target is targeted by a cop, his target appears guilty to that cop.

Third-Party specific roles: Must survive till the end of the game. Wins with either the mafia or town or by themselves.
Catholic Priest: Can molest 1 player each night into a coalescing cult of shame. Only the Catholic Priest can recruit players so once you are killed, that's it. The molested cult must be the last faction alive. Upon receiving recruited players roles ("stolen" once a player is recruited), the Catholic Priest may only select 1 power to use at night including recruiting new members ie: If they recruit a cop. That cop becomes beholden to his shame and the Catholic Priest has both the power to recruit and now cop power. BUT may only chose one to use each night.

Molested and shame ridden: Members of the Catholic Priest's cult get to form form an alliance but, they lose all abilities they had in their previous role and that power is instead given to the Catholic Priest.

Lovers: Two players, often a pro-town and a pro-mafia are madly in love. They know of each other. They can only win when they are the last two alive at the end of the game. When one lover is killed the following lover kills themself the following day or night. They cannot win with their pro-town or pro-mafia faction unless one of the lovers is the last person to be killed and ends the game.
ie: If Lover 1 is pro-town and is killed during the night and was the last pro-town left, then Lover 2 who is pro-mafia will not have time to kill himself and will win with the mafia.

Possible role enhancements:
Politicians: Can "buy" one players day vote the night before.

Mentor: Can take on an apprentice but only 1 at a time. The mentor and apprentice then learn each others roles (but the apprentice does not change factions). If the apprentice is killed then the mentor simply takes on another apprentice in the next night. (Night actions).

Points to remember: PM's and back channel communications are usually tools of Mafia players! Be very leery of anyone who wants to "talk" about the game. I've tried to design enough night powers to adequately play this game without forming an alliance to base conclusions on. That being said, there are no rules against this aside from revealing any info once you've been lynched. Once you are dead, you're dead. No talking or posting ANYTHING on the board period.

At this point I'm open to suggestions and critique so everything above is subject to change. I'd like to have an even number of players so I'll probably limit it to 12 players only.

Ok I'll give it a go. Seems a little overly-complicated but whatev's maybe it'll work.

Because he isn't using all of the roles, this adds the mystery of what roles are really in the game.

I'm in Grassy, I enjoyed you previous Mafia game.

I would play except that:

-I'm going to be busy as hell the next few days.
-This game seems a little too complicated for me.
-I've already won all 4 of the mafia games I've been in and would like to retroactively have a "mafia casino chip cash-in station" constructed so that I can get my pay out. The number one rule of luck is not to push it.

Shame too, this looks interesting.

Yes it is kinda, the odds modality is something I liked from A2's previous game I just wish I could have had a way to improve my odds if I wanted to. That's what I'm hoping to accomplish along with incorporating the Breaking Bad theme. You can ignore the whole cook/user aspect and still play it as normal.

This will be similar to zombie apocalypse version we did so the persona thing adds a little more to it but does work when things get going.

I also like the story aspect of previous games, leaving clues and hints, and persona helps with that I think.

I think I'll revamp a little on all of those roles up there and post the changes when I'm done.
