Breast test furor fades but anger lingers

Up to 12,000 women from 40 to 49 could be saved by yearly mammograms over a 10-year period, a cancer expert says

CNN) -- If you're a woman in your 40s, you probably remember how checking the health of your breasts became a point of national contention last year.

Patients, physicians and major medical organizations fought back ("I want my mammograms!") when the United States Preventive Services Task Force recommended that women with average breast cancer risk begin biannual mammograms at 50.

This is messed up - the story i mean. :-p

It's really a very uncomfortable grey area -for all the wrong reasons.
If screening doesn't occur before 50 they could die, if it starts at 40 there could be interest in financial exploitation - what's wrong with our species sometimes - honestly ?! Anyone ever hear of compassion ?

I've been getting annual mammograms since I was 40. It's free under my health insurance.
I guess if women don't want to get their "mamms grammed" they shouldn't. Of course, the screening doesn't prevent cancer, it just can identify it before it gets out of hand.
