Bumped into a tumblr nutter today
Had one of the most bizarre encounters today at an oriental store with some sort of furry hipster college girl.

Went into a local oriental supermarket because they do rice and spices for cheaper than anywhere else around here, and I also like to look around at all of the interesting things I don't really know what they are. I've always enjoyed the occasional bottled green teas or coconut water too, so even more reason to go in. Anyway, I picked up two small sacks of rice, a box of some sort of squishy green things I still don't know what they are exactly, and a couple of bottles of thai coconut water. I went up front and go in line for the checkout, which at this particular store is right near the window, and the main door which opens directly onto the highstreet.
I was stood for about a minute in line, then suddenly this girl comes in the door and shouts "HOW DARE YOU?!" as loud as I think it is humanly possible.
I knew I was in trouble right away because she had huge plastic glasses and was wearing a pink tail and a t-shirt with a pink paw on the front of it. I didn't really know how to react so I just said "What?"
She launched into this barely intelligible rant about how I shouldn't be in what she called "the chinese market" (it actually stocks things from India to Japan and from Indonesia to Mongolia, and is owned by a Japanese couple, but meh), and how I was taking money away from minorities who are "being constantly shit on by your kind" and I "am so blind that you just appropriate any culture you feel like". This quickly devolved into some kind of screaming mumbling sound. I didn't really know what to say so I just stood there. After a short while of this the women working the checkout charged out and, in one of the thickest scottish accents I've ever heard, ordered the girl to get out and not come back.
I was speechless, so I just quietly waited my turn, then paid for my stuff. The woman at the checkout commented that it is actually surprisingly common, which honestly doesn't surprise me since I live in a city with an art college full of that sort of people, but still it's something I've never seen before, except for on tumblr of course xD
Been using this store for about 5 years and never had any problems before.

The woman working the store wanted to give me a 10% off my next shop coupon as a sign of apology, but I said if anything I should be the one appologising, and nobody can really control what a random nutter is going to do so it's not the store's fault.

So it's been an interesting day so far, and it's not even lunchtime yet.

Damn, what do you expect, trying to appropriate a human culture instead of being a pink animal!

"am so blind that you just appropriate any culture you feel like"
Soooo is she saying that you should not take any interest in any cultures that you weren't born into?

"how I was taking money away from minorities who are "being constantly shit on"
By shopping in a buisness owned and run by minorities you are taking money from minorites?....

Humans unfortunately no matter boarders or race or religion evolved to be very tribal and that is where her mentality is coming from. You have every right to shop there.

I was married to a Japanese woman and we went to visit her parents in Japan. While we were there we went to a harvest festival where they threw rice candy off the backs of a flatbed truck. The local women there did not like me competing for that candy. I got long fingernails stabbed into my hand trying to go for the candy that landed on the ground.

Forming groups is evolutionary, it allows us more protection and opportunity to make offspring and gain resources. That has always happened, and will always happen. It is a double edge sword. It has been helpful in our entire species evolution but it is also what divides us as well.

So she thought this was some kind of subsidised store for brown people?

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

I still don't know what they are, but I'm pretty sure it's some sort of rice flour based thing and is stuffed with a sweet green tea jelly. It's sort of like the texture of corn flour and water mix, but it remains solid when left alone. Tastes like green tea anyway :L

Apparently so, though she didn't seem upset by a white woman looking through tea in the aisle next to the checkout; maybe didn't notice her? xD

In reality though the store has always marketed itself to the native population, and seems to keep up with that though there is now a very large oriental population in the area; mainly university students from China. Was a little insight into the ways they play up to the natives today because the lady who usually works the checkout has always been very quiet and with an unspecific oriental accent; never guessed that her angry voice would be that of a 7 foot highlander. :L

RE: Bumped into a tumblr nutter today
First of all, she's a furry so that kind of explains 99% of her insanity.

Secondly, I'll say this because I can. I live in the USA, but my mother is not from this country. She wasn't raised speaking English, learned to speak it when she was 15, spent hundreds of dollars to get her green card (aka Permanent Resident Card), and would never side with this nutjob.

This is the United States of America, and that nutjob doesn't understand that since that shop owner is here, she probably won't care if someone not from that region shops there. What would she have done if you ever said, "I won't eat rice or mochi because that's for Asians!" My money says Insane Inez there chows down on Pocky and Pretz on a regular basis.

I go to a lot of Asian markets here. Even once accidentally bought a Japanese porno, with the elderly shop owner asking me, "You like?" I nodded and smiled, not knowing what I had. She said I would like that one and gave me a discount. When I got home, I was surprised. Still have that one, too... I'd go there and they'd eventually suggest all kinds of things.

So yeah that nutjob just needs a good "yiffing" and needs to STFU.
