RE: Buy American
I do buy local as much as I possibly can. As for my arguments being flawed It may be. I look at Germany's country and see a great National Pride and they buy German. They don't move their factory's over seas just for profit off the backs of labor. They have a high standard of living. Their have been struggles and losses but they have committed to the country. Our corp people only see the bottom line and say fuck the people.

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a
free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their
political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their
own purpose. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Hey Noah, are you sure that Focus is built on Mazda 3 platform, I thought it was the other way around, as Mazda 6 is built on Ford Mondeo platform. And, if you have any article, I would love to see it, I am always interested in these things. Thanks.

RE: Buy American
who cares, the only Mazda that is valid to have any discussion discussed about it is the RX3 because that is one god damn sexy piece of machinery when a bit of money is spent on it. Plus rotaries just sound so so so so so so so good.

*drools*
I want one.
That or a F100. Problem being, either is just so god damn expensive, not to mention if you buy stock you gotta spend a big of money to actually make them look so god damn good.

I think national pride and even ethnic pride is so pointless. I think it was George Carlin that put it best... What exactly is there to be proud of? You were born where you were by chance. You were born a certain ethnicity by chance. Pride should be something you achieved through work. Carlin was spot on. Do we express this much pride for being born with a certain color hair? Maybe you should only purchase from people with the same hair color as you.

As for Germany, they make superb automobiles. They have a high regard for their engineers and scientists and math equations even show up on their currency. It's not about being proud of their country, although I'm sure they are... It's about the culture. Compare that to America. We're scared of the number 13 for Pete's Sake.

Keeping that in mind, realize that this whole buy 'Merican thing actually hurts us. The Big 3 is a PRIME example of why this is true. Americans supported these cars that just weren't up to par in terms of quality when compared to competitors. Yet, America supported them mostly because they are "American made". What boggles my mind is that this whole 'Merica Pride shot up even more after the Big 3 failures. WTF!?! Blink

Americans didn't lose jobs over imports. Americans lost jobs because they continued to blindly support bad companies with poor products. One thing I'm happy about is that it seems American cars are becoming more reliable now. Hopefully greedy CEO's don't pass up opportunities like GM did with the EV1.

You know, I was going off what my friend (he's an engineer at Ford) said. So I looked it up.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_C1_platform

Seems Ford, Mazda, and Volvo engineers all worked together on the C1 platform. Ford Fusion Europe was the first car released with it. In America, Mazda 3 came first I believe. My point still holds true though. You'll have a helluva time looking for a product, particularly technology, that is truly American-made.

Imports help the economy and that's the bottom line. Buy local if you can, otherwise, don't worry about the nonsense.

Free market!

You wanted free market, you hate the word "socialism"? Well, there you have it, this is free market. Enjoy.

There is still nothing wrong with encouraging people to manipulate the local market in a positive way. Especially since it ultimately benefits you.

Hey earmuffs, that's some nice piece of machine. I love old-school design. But what is wrong with the RX-8? It has rotary, it goes like rocket, it sound like 2 rockets and it looks great, for a modern car.

It even has these cool doors, that open on all over the place... Suicide doors. Big Grin

Seriously, you don't fancy this?

RE: Buy American
Earmuffs, the only flaw with your economic model is that companies can not produce cheaper goods. They pay higher salaries than outsourced jobs. So you have to raise the price to make up for the money lost.

I live in Germany, and this is not true. The primary labor force is made up of Turkish low class workers, much like the U.S's is made up of illegal immigrants.

Not only Turks, half of Balkan works in Germany. At least half of Croatia is in Germany, working and living.
