But I've never heard someone quote a bible passage that says "do not lay with a black as you would lay with a white." Or anything that implicitly advocates racism in the modern age. I'm sure there are passages that were used in the past about living amongst infidels or something that racists used but I don't know of any true white vs. black racism that could be used to justify. But their bible is pretty clear about the whole gay thing.

Well, ask a Mormon.

No thanks. Mormons are down there with scientologists and "christian scientists" on my AVOID AT ALL COST list.

Which is fine because she's not a Mormon, she's just a member of the group that is labeled Mormon.

I would hope that part of history never repeats itself. But gay and black are not the same thing. Gay is not a race. Or an ethnicity.

Simply because a characteristic is not visible does not mean it is not intrinsic. And if you are trying to argue that discrimination based on non-intrinsic characteristics is acceptable, then you're opening the door to religious discrimination.

I'm sure there are passages that were used in the past about living amongst infidels or something that racists used but I don't know of any true white vs. black racism that could be used to justify.

Quote:One of the most popular biblical stories is also the one most often used to justify white racial superiority. After he disembarked from his 40-day cruise, Noah went a little wild in his celebrations, resulting in a bit of indecent exposure whilst passed out on the floor. Noah's son, Ham, walked in on him and saw the display. Rather than covering Noah, Ham went and blabbed all about it. When Noah recovered from his bender, he was not pleased with Ham and so he cursed Ham's son: “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers” (Genesis 9:25). Eventually the Canaanites did indeed become slaves to the Jews, so end of story, right? Nah...

Some claim that people with dark skin descended from Ham, while white folks came from Japheth and Asians came from Shem. Ham's name is thought to translate to 'black /dark,' and his descendants populated North-East Africa (Cush's descendants populated Sudan, Mizraim to Egypt, Phut to Libya, while Canaan's folks went to Israel). Again, the claim here is that both the skin, the curse, and the seedy disposition are heritable.

So what? We're talking about secular society, not the foibles of the superstitious. Do you think a business owner should be allowed to refuse service to blacks?

It is still an attempt to discriminate.

Although I can't imagine taking my own life, I've also never been terminally ill and suffering in pain. This is for people who are going to die anyway, with no chance for recovery. No reason for them to suffer.

My wife hates when I talk about death. I can only imagine one thing in life that could cause me to kill myself. Lou Gehrig's disease is the only thing that would cause me to kill myself, or something equal to it. You know, being unable to move for the rest of your life. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. I would wait until they were going to take away my ability to drive, because by then I probably would be unable to walk. Then I would drive my car into a wall at 100MPH or off a cliff. I don't trust my wife to do the right thing and let me go, so I would have to do it myself. Fortunately, I don't have that condition.

If I ever find myself in need of ending my own life - I'd opt for an overdose.
