Can non-life become life
You will have to excuse me because I believe this has been covered before, but I could not find it.
My question questions is: can life be generated form non-life? More specifically can living, breathing, functioning organisms be formed from a non living, breathing, functioning organism.

RE: Can non-life become life
If living things can give birth to non-living things, why can't non-living things give rise to living things? Smile

Your question does not make a lot of sense. What is a "non living, breathing, functioning organism"?Consider

RE: Can non-life become life
There is no absolute "black and white" boundary between life and non-life, which you would know if you ever took any Biology. Viruses can reproduce, but are not considered "alive". This is likely WAY over your head, but the series contains the answers to your question, (assuming it even was a genuine question, and not just a lead-in to fundie Creationist crap).

Chas,
This is not a trick question. Can life come from non-life? You study evolution, how did or could life occur? Does it happen now? If something is living and breathing, it must be alive and some kind of animal, insect, or whatever.
The question is not that deep. Can life occur from non-life?

RE: Can non-life become life
What is life? Maybe we attribute too much importance and meaning to a simple biochemical process.
