Capable or incapable.
After watching many Christian apologetics and spokespersons I got the impression that they believe they are capable of something that all non-Christians are incapable of. Question:- What is that thing?...... Because it seems to me that we are all human beings and as such capable and incapable of all the same things regardless of what you believe. You can replace the work Christian with most any other religion and ask the same question.

RE: Capable or incapable.
Hi,

I think theists believe themselves capable of a 'leap of faith' (words courtesy of Kierkegaard). Of course, non believers will say that this is just self deception, and it may well be so. I have sometimes felt like I could make the 'leap' but never quite managed it, guess I was/am incapable?

D.

It seems that only Christians believe they can tell the difference between good and evil. Well surprise - surprise so can everyone else.

RE: Capable or incapable.
Hmm, these "capable" theists were atheists until they were either brainwashed or had a "Road to Damascus" type experience.

Maybe some truth in the "incapable" non-believer, I consider myself unable to accept the concept of blind faith in anything (except my own driving of course). "Expelled" from Sunday school at age ten for asking awkward questions and refusing to accept anything on faith. Have dangled on two fingers over 100 foot drop, a few other dicey situations like that. Then very, very close to death after a double heart attack and knowing so.

No Damascene moment for me, too busy calculating the chances of getting out alive! No convertees in my personal foxhole! Not even Pascal's Wager.

(Doing very well, without belief in the supernatural, 18 years after the heart attack - partly due to some very clever science that has saved my life twice more.)

Goes to show. You don't need God for good things to happen to you. Nor do you have to praise him for it either.

I heard those who are not capable can go get some Viagra. Then they're capable.

Insufferable know-it-all.Einstein God has a plan for us. Please stop screwing it up with your prayers.

Okay, but you don't have to be such a prick about it.

Okay, but does the question actually work with most any other religions? I can see that it works for Christianity, Buddhism and Islam, but my knee jerk reaction is to question the religions that don't proselytize.

What thing do the Hindus, Jains, Jews, Native Americans or Sikhs believe they are capable that is exclusive to members of their religion?
