Catch 22
I just have to share this quote from The God Delusion By Richard Dawkins.

Quote:"American polls suggest that atheists and agnostics far outnumber religious Jews, and even outnumber most other particular religious groups. Unlike Jews, however, who are notoriously one of the most effective political lobbies in the United States, and unlike evangelical Christians, who wield even greater political power, atheists and agnostics are not organized and therefore exert almost zero influence. Indeed, organizing atheists has been compared to herding cats, because they tend to think independently and will not conform to authority."

Humans arrived on Earth on 22 October 4004 B.C. A few of us are still trying to repair the ship.

Who the hell is he to tell me what to think? I will damn well conform to authority if and when and where I choose. The nerve of this guy thinking he can tell me what to do!

Seth did a good podcast on this (or something very nearly this) and the difrence between religous jews ect is that atheists arn't really bound by anything. A lack of belife in something is a hard thing to unite around. Just look at the politics board on this forum to see why we don't have a united front.

Yeah there are a few but to build an actual voting block is more what Proff Dawkins was reffering to and that I belive is beyond this movement.

RE: Catch 22
There is really no reason why secularist couldn't organize and unite on the things we do have in common. There are more than enough infringements against the separation of church and state in the United States to keep an entire generation of secular free thinkers busy for years to come. Who knows? We might actually get some of our interests protected in the political discourse.

Religion, rather than acting as a symbol of truth or justice, merely acts as a symbol of human gullibility and stupidity. Surely no race of beings with any real intelligence would concoct such drivel.
