RE: Challenge any theist to a debate
Why the fear? It's just a discussion. It's not like I'm gonna rape you if you turn out to be wrong.

Your wording there is OP. lol

I was actually meaning fear about Theism and Atheism. I haven't let go of the theism, and I think a lot of it has to do with the fear.

I think it's the whole Pascal's Wager thing that's getting to me. If there is no god, I have nothing to fear, ultimately... even if I spent life believing there was. If I spent life believing there ISN'T a god when there really was... I may very well have something to fear later.

It's funny that pascals wager is one of the most popular AND one of the worst reasons for believing in god since you have no idea what god wants and what you must do to avoid hell.
My fear of hell evaporated once I researched theism more closely. What kept me theist for the longest was the moral argument.

I would also like to point out that the typically held notions of hell by Christians have next to no biblical support. The New Testament spent very little time describing hell or what it took to land a spot there. Virtually all aspects of the modern Christian's conception of hell is molded off of depictions constructed during the Middle Ages (the most famous being Dante's Inferno).

Bible mentions eternal torment quite a bit

Thank you, I'll check it out.
For the record, in fundamentalism it was taught that what God wanted was for a person to "repent" (turn away from a life dedicated to sin and live for him instead) and believe in the death/burial/resurrection of Jesus and trust him to have paid for our sins.
