I figured that's how you pronounce it, but from a linguistic point of view it's consonants that count the most (put very very basically... let's hope Paul doesn't see this). Did you know that back in olden times, they would sometimes omit the vowels in manuscripts, to save space? Also, vowels would change over times, but consonants were much less changeable (not counting things like Grimm's Law, of course).
