It's ironic how they want to sound like science backs their book up - except when it doesn't, then they deride science as "secular" "evolutionists" and "Darwinists".

True. This page does a good job of refuting points 1 and 3.

For instance, the word "sphere" is a wrong translation. The original Hebrew word meant "ring" or "circle." As the linked page states, "A circle is no more a sphere in Scripture than it is in geometry." Also, this rationwiki picture does a good job of showing that other passages point to a flat earth. You can only see all of the world's kingdoms on a flat plain. In this case, "circle" would refer to a 360 view. I've heard others suggest that it refers to the protective circular pattern in which ancient peoples probably set up their camps.

All that cherry picking of their Bible has got them in the habit of cherry picking their science. Anything that doesn't make the cut is an evil, liberal, atheist attempt to kill God.

Many of those above-mentioned verses are quite vague, and can be read many ways. Similarly, the verse that says the earth is a sphere is super dishonest. There was no separate word for sphere and circle in the original language, so who knows what was said? It could be just as likely that they thought the earth was a disk. All that aside, there are two big problems with this:

They had a word for a flat circle, like a plate. While they might not have a word that exactly translates to sphere, they had one for 'ball'. If they really knew that the world was round, why not use the word for ball? Why not invent a new word to represent the new idea? It's easily one of the dumbest cop-outs and lies that attempt to get passed off by those too ignorant of the truth and too lazy to go looking for it.

Quote:Listed example purporting that the ancients thought the earth was flat? Really? The Pryamid Texts (2300's b.c.) postulated a spherical earth as well as did Pythagoras (500's b.c.) both well before the Old Testament was written.

Listed example purporting that the earth sat on a large animal? Really? Anaxamander (500's) postulated that the earth ''floated'' in space.

Listed example purporting that the ancients were ignorant of invisible elements? Really? Democritus postulated atoms/molecules (400's b.c.).

Heck even Pythagoras (500's b.c.) postulated that the universe works in unseen vibrations ... i.e. String Theory.

It goes on an on, but I think it more interesting that it is the Church that often held and brutally enforced these flawed theories.
Only now, do Christians want to switch roles and make the claim that somehow THEY are the ones that progressed science.

It's exasperating in many ways.
