"Every faction in Africa calls themselves by these noble names - Liberation this, Patriotic that, Democratic Republic of something-or-other... I guess they can't own up to what they usually are: the Federation of Worse Oppressors Than the Last Bunch of Oppressors. Often, the most barbaric atrocities occur when both combatants proclaim themselves Freedom Fighters." - Yuri Orlov [Nicholas Cage]

Not generally a Nicholas Cage fan, but that's an excellent, woefully underrated movie.

Yuri Orlov is such a strangely tragic protagonist. What's even stranger is the movie itself. The story is a composite of several real life arms dealers. They had access to a real arms dealer, and so they used real AK rifles throughout the movie because they were cheaper than prop guns. That Hind-D was authentic, as were the row of Russian tanks; for which they had to inform NATO and let them know they were filming a movie and not planning an invasion.

RE: Christians who voted for trump
Totally. I saw that film in a 20 seat theater in a tiny town in bumfuck nowhere, western Kansas, while on an op for the state Department of Environment, with my field team partner and I being the only people in the room. Was just there to avoid our crappy little motel rooms (town was too small for major chain), and there was little else to do. The selections were crap, so we picked that one.

Walked out totally blown away. No pun intended.

I love that interrogation scene: "I'd tell you to go to hell, but I think you're already there."

Christians who voted for trump
Never saw that movie but I saw the great new Nick Cage movie, Army of One, where he plays the real guy who in 2004ish felt God had chosen him to go to Pakistan and kill Osama bin Laden. It was marvelous if you can appreciate crazy Cage.

I'm sure he is the type of Christian that voted for Trump too

Cage is not Mel Gibson. But after the IRS finished repossessing almost everything he owned, he'll take any role that pays, even shitty Christian movies.

RE: Christians who voted for trump
I've, along with my brother, have questioned, mocked and condemned Christians for voting for Trump.

It's hypocritical... and, the justifications for it are so outlandish and compromising... I don't see how they can actually be morally ok with it.

There is simply no excuse for it.

American Christians are mostly dogmatic sheep.

Republicans had a "choice". Instead of choosing someone who is honest about the status quo and holds most of the ethics that they hold, they listened to an orange buffoon who made impossible promises to cater to their own deluded sense of piety.

Not surprisingly, Trump isn't going to build a wall, repeal gay marriage or make abortion illegal.

Smh

Maybe by 2020 or 2024 repubes will wake the eff up.

If that happens, we'll finally get a porcupine in the white house.

Socialism, gangster culture, flag burning anti americanism are now recognized as democratic party traits. People see those traits and are staying home on election day or voting for republicans.

Everytime an american is talking about "far left" policies of american politicians, the whole rest of the world chuckles. Big Grin

Everytime an american is talking about "socialism" in the US, the whole rest of the world is bursting in laughter Laugh out load
