Christmas caroling. Help me out here
So I really like singing. And since caroling is a good opportunity to sing, I decided to organize a little choir to sing Carol of the Bells (acapella!) at our school's Christmas party. I figured we could try it out, see how it goes, and then maybe choose another one to work on if our practices go well.
So we've practiced a few times and it's going alright, and the little group is all ooh we should choose another song! So ok that's cool, but they're coming out with like, O Holy Night, Silent Night, and all these songs about Jesus. I tried to say I don't want to sing about Jesus, and I got told I was being hostile and that Jesus is what Christmas is all about! Hobo
What do I do? It was my freakin' idea to sing, I'm directing the practices, and I don't want to sing a song that tells people to fall down and worship the baby Jesus! But I don't want to be a dictator Sad but I wanna sing Sad

I guess we all have a cross to bear.

Can you not just sit out the Jesusy ones explaining that it's against your non-beliefs?

Like, me sit out of singing the song? That's absurd, as I'm the one spearheading this whole thing.
Or put the Jesus lovers in time out? Also not an option as we're only five people, and I need that four part harmony. The dude arguing with me the most is my tenor, and I can't just kick him out.

So you live in an officially atheist country and you pick a fundie as your tenor?

Dodgy

Hmmm... well, good tenors are hard to find... try this:

"Welcome, everyone and thank you for coming.

I hope you will enjoy this evening's entertainment as we regale you with songs of myths and legends..."

I'm flying to HK in the morning.

Would you like me to stop by and 'have a word' with them?

My mom went to one mass a year - midnight at Christmas. She loved the choir music in that mass, it was special and she sang in that choir at times. She was atheist. The songs were all about god.

Sometimes you can enjoy the music and ignore the words...
