RE: Christopher Hitchens 1949-2011
The planet is forever bettered having him here this long.

I've been thinking about that "Adopt An Atheist" crap...
In the next few weeks, if a Christ-y comes up to me and puts on their preach, I've decided to adopt a Hitch-slap. I love this quote: ~ To 'choose' dogma and faith over doubt and experience is to throw out the ripening vintage and to reach greedily for the Kool-Aid. ~ I'll let them know who said it so they'll know they deserve it. Wink

Angel That should round out their holiday season.

A new type of thinking is essential if mankind is to survive and move to higher levels. ~ Albert Einstein

No, it is my fight, morondog and Doc Hoc.

For example, if you didn't know me and I told you I was a Christian, what would your immediate thought be?

Christopher Hitchens 1949-2011
Christopher Hitchens died yesterday in Houston.

Yesterday I feel like I lost a fierce, cutting edge voice of the thoughts in my being that I did not know how to put into an organized form ... but when I read his words, from deep within I said, "Yeah! That's it! Yeah!"
I'm sad for the unwritten books that were yet to come.
As an atheist, I hope when I stare death in the face I'll be as cool as Hitchens.
Go easy man.

"Faith is the surrender of the mind; it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other mammals. It's our need to believe, and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated."

RE: Goodbye Christopher Hitchens...
Here's some excerpts from his final interview with, appropriately enough, Richard Dawkins.

Preview: Richard Dawkins interviews Christopher Hitchens

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

"To think of what the world has suffered from superstition, from religion, from the worship of beast and stone and god, is
almost enough to make one insane."

RE: Goodbye Christopher Hitchens...
I would say this is the best compilation on youtube.

"Ain't got no last words to say, yellow streak right up my spine. The gun in my mouth was real and the taste blew my mind."

"We see you cry. We turn your head. Then we slap your face. We see you try. We see you fail. Some things never change."

Here's a quick one to enjoy which I already posted on another thread.
Smile It is noteworthy and relevant -very Hitch- and he's quite upbeat and funny.
