Church employee bullied to get married

WTF?

“Truth does not demand belief. Scientists do not join hands every Sunday, singing, yes, gravity is real! I will have faith! I will be strong! I believe in my heart that what goes up, up, up, must come down, down, down. Amen! If they did, we would think they were pretty insecure about it.”

WTF?

http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/religion.cfm Wrote:Religious Accommodation/Dress & Grooming Policies:
Unless it would be an undue hardship on the employer's operation of its business, an employer must reasonably accommodate an employee's religious beliefs or practices.

"undue hardship" Wow, how conveniently vague.

continued from above Wrote:This applies not only to schedule changes or leave for religious observances, but also to such things as dress or grooming practices that an employee has for religious reasons. These might include, for example, wearing particular head coverings or other religious dress (such as a Jewish yarmulke or a Muslim headscarf), or wearing certain hairstyles or facial hair (such as Rastafarian dreadlocks or Sikh uncut hair and beard). It also includes an employee's observance of a religious prohibition against wearing certain garments (such as pants or miniskirts)

"....prohibition against wearing.... pants..."

She should find a big black dude wearing a hoodie and pants on the ground and introduce him to her boss as "my babydaddy" and ask for 3 hours off to go down to the County Courthouse and get hitched. That'd be cool.

Yee-know

You're welcome Smartass

I hope that the world turns, and things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that, even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you, I love you. With all my heart, I love you. - V for Vendetta

Just when you think these jesus spouting scumbags couldn't go any lower they surprise you and manage to do it.

Atheism is NOT a Religion. It's A Personal Relationship With Reality!

Surely any lawyer worth a damn could win that one in court if they do fire her.
You can't fire someone on something such as marriage status and especially considering she's pregnant it doesn't look good for the employer, looks like he's trying to get rid of her before he has to pay maternity leave.

Unlike a civilized society like that run by the aboriginal natives of New Zealand, GetYerMuffOuttaMyStuff, there is no obligation for the employer to offer paid maternity leave in the US. And as a day care center I think they are also likely legally able to require marriage to be a job requirement for caring for kids as long as they applied it equally. Same-sex marriage is legal in VA so if a married gay parent who has raised a few kids of their own applies for a job? That'd be cool.

You're doing it wrong.

But there's a difference between hiring someone and firing someone who already has the job.
They knew that she had a child out of wedlock already and it wasn't a problem when they hired her so why is it a problem now?

It's beyond comprehensible that her employer can say "get married or lose your job" and get away with it.
If that is indeed legal, you guys have some seriously fucked up employment laws.

Her employment contract was conditional on getting married.
