Climate Change and the Human Influence
This is the sort of thread that has almost certainly been made before (hell, I've probably made one about it before), but I am going to make another with a poll since there are some new people on the forum so they can select their preferred choice.

Is climate change real? Are humans influencing it?

A follow-up question: When it comes to change/perturbations, is the rate of change or the magnitude of change more important? (I'll say that "more important" means with respect to the biosphere specifically)

RE: Climate Change and the Human Influence
You should poll the republican party. Bet it would be a big majority that would vote no.... humans have nothing to do with it. Hell Pence, the fuckin v p, thinks the earth is 6000 years old! Oh, the stupidity. We're fucked.

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

RE: Climate Change and the Human Influence
Of course it's real.

You can't observe something without affecting the outcome of the subject.

.....

The real question -- is are we looking to dominate our environment, or learn to get along with it's cycles??

DAMMIT MAN. I make a poll on an important science issue and you remind me how fucked we are politically too. Hobo

No, my real question is whether or not humans play an integral role in the processes governing climates and climate change.

I answered that.

Of course we play a role in it's change. We always will. The only way to prevent us from affecting it, is to remove the humans from the equation....

I didn't see a response to the polled question and I couldn't decipher that in your reply either.

Humans effect climate change, primarily through the global carbon cycle.

I didn't answer your poll - because my answer wouldn't fit.

....

Again - I agree we affect climate. It's inevitable.

Think of the climate as a rowboat. Port is cooling, starboard is heating.

Anything you do - is going to cause the boat to heel to port or starboard.

The only way you can eliminate any effect (however small) is to remove the guy from the boat.

But our effect isn't small nor is it akin to a ripple on a pond from an oar. Humans are currently the primary source (of greenhouse gases and other processes that provide positive feedback loops) behind the mechanism changing our climate (the global carbon cycle and the greenhouse effect).

RE: Climate Change and the Human Influence
Never in the history of the Earth have we ever seen a single species effect change of this magnitude and speed on the Earth system. It is unprecedented.
