Climate change?

Anyone care to educate me on this? I did get a lot of laughs at the terms they used thought Weeping

RE: Climate change?
Apart from the author citing a discredited article claiming global warming has paused since 1997, the biggest mistake I see was that they did not recognize that not all ice is equal.

There is old ice, first-year ice, and young ice. Old ice is ice that has survived a melting season. It is thick, dense, and plays an important role in ice formation. First year ice is thinner ice that has only been present for one 'growing season' and melts away in the summer. Young ice is ice that has not yet formed a solid structure. It is slush or small plates floating in the sea.

What has been happening is that the percentage of old ice has been decreasing every year. Yes, some years ice coverage is more than the past several years, but the ice that you see is young ice, or first year ice. It is thinly spread and melts away within the year. It doesn't support seals, polar bears, or human activity.

A comparison could be made to deforestation. If one forest covers 120 square kilometres, is it better off than a forest that covers 100? Not if the 120 sq km forest has been thinned out so that the only trees left are a sparse monoculture of pine where there used to be great diversity. It's bigger, but it doesn't support a healthy ecosystem. Surface area is not a measure of health or environmental change.

If something can be destroyed by the truth, it might be worth destroying.

RE: Climate change?
Gotta love conservative articles...
"...the Church of Global Warming..."
"A gang of unfortunate dupes who fell for the global warming scam..."
"...doubtless with little plastic Al Gore bobbleheads..."
"...climate-change cult..."
"there is no global warming." (in bold)
"...on actual science..."

Yea, this guy is completely able to write an unbiased article...

RE: Climate change?
I think the Arctic sea ice minimum graph shows the importance of the type of sea ice coverage. Even when the surface area seems larger at its minimum than the previous year, the actual volume of ice has almost definitely decreased. A thin layer of slush is no replacement for a metre thick slab.
