Trump's pick for the new FBI Director is Christopher Wray.

Wray's legal practice, King & Spalding, has offices in Moscow and represents Rosneft and Gazprom, two of Russia’s largest state-controlled oil companies. Gazprom was a partner in RosUkrEnergo AG, controlled by Ukrainian oligarch Dmitry Firtash. Firtash is under federal indictment in Chicago for racketeering charges, has had numerous financial dealings with former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, who is under investigation regarding ties to pro-Putin forces in Ukraine, and is generally considered to be a member of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle.

There's your Russian connection.

Wray also defended New Jersey governor Chris Christie and one of Christie's "missing" cellphones that had vital information on it was found in Wray's possession. Source:Gov. Christie's cell phone is no longer missing

This appointment stinks from top to bottom, which is entirely expected given it's a Trump appointment.

Yes, it's all true, hence the links.

And yes, Trump is shitting all over the system, with the help of his alt-right and Russian overlords.

In somewhat interesting news...Comey's testimony had 19.5 million people tune in by television alone!

Need to think of a witty signature.

RE: Comey fired
If Trump were a rational man, instead of trying to win in the court of public opinion by bashing Comey who hardly matters at this point, he'd be looking at what Mueller is doing and shitting his pants. Mueller just tapped the best criminal appeals lawyer the government has. It is clear at this point that Mueller is most certainly investigating Trump for obstruction of justice. Trump does not appreciate what's going to happen next. Mueller will spend months if not years compiling evidence so that when and if the time comes for the government to file charges, the charges themselves will deliver the knockout punch. And Trump is walking right into it. Grampa heard the doorbell and thought thought the fight was over. That was the bell to start the fight, not to stop it. In Trump's corner there are a bunch of civil attorneys with no appreciation for the shitstorm they are about to face.

I had noticed that ... they are almost as much PR bullshitters as lawyers, all form and no substance. They are out of their depth.

The notion of suing Comey for leaking his own memos for example will go nowhere, it is just a weak diversionary tactic. Comey himself is a lawyer, formerly the assistant AG IIRC, so I imagine he will swat that fly himself, without even having to hire counsel. Indeed, I would expect a lot of pro bono help to be offered to him by any necessary specialists.

Such "wear them down" tactics work for the Mafia dons, and for certain kinds of business kingpins with a Mafia-like management style, but they won't go anywhere in the Federal government (yet, at this early stage of "deconstruction"), particularly with career employees like Comey with real convictions and personal integrity. Federal institutions are not some neighborhood laundromat that they can hit up for protection money with veiled threats.

I think what will save us from Trump in the end is his basic clueless, ignorant, incurious incompetence and self-unaware self-absorption, as well as his rigid adherence to certain response patterns and his limited attention span. If he were an actual evil genius with middling or better intelligence, we'd be screwed already.

Fortunately him going on about how his opponents were "low energy", "stupid" people who everyone was laughing at was just projection of his own weaknesses and and (often well-founded) fears.

That would be Pence. The Republicans started this process of standing President Pence up as soon as Trump was nominated.

RE: Comey fired
How in the fuck did a family this stupid get so rich? There's your proof there is no God. So now Trump Jr. not only directly contradicts Dad regarding remarks about Flynn to Comey, he also indicated that his Dad regularly uses intimidation tactics which of course undermines the very point he was trying to make. So now Mueller's gonna subpoena Trump Jr. "Tell me about your father. Specifically those instances of intimidation you described on Fox news."

Yeah good point, which is why I have mixed feelings about Trump being impeached this early and having it move along too quickly. I would rather he do the maximum damage to the GOP and have the maximum paralysis of his / their legislative agenda, rendering it as unlikely as possible for Pence to get the Trump Cooties off of him in time to be in office for any length of time or to make a viable run of his own in 2020.

Besides, I'm of the opinion that Pence is probably guilty of crimes himself, and the more investigation is done, the more he'll be sullied with it.

Of course the tradeoff is that while Trump is doing maximum damage to the GOP and himself he's also damaging our institutions and the country, and stressing people out. It's a real Hobson's choice.

Also, if they get their shit together and put together than oxymoronic unicorn known as a Republican "health care" bill, it might have the unintended consequence of making single-payer super popular and ultimately advance us into the community of other nations who actually see to the needs of their people.

More than ever ... I don't know whether to laugh or cry, or what the unintended consequences of various scenarios might be. It's like playing Russian Roulette.
