Can we say S E L L - O U T?? What the Crap are we supposed to make of this?
I've always seen Rap as not just a genre but an attitude. Some things just don't jibe with a raptasitic flare. Snoop... what are you thinking? I always new I shouldn't eat those things, now I know I'm not dogg enough to put it on my plzzay(?). |

You're not Dogg enough? Don't you mean you're not Lion enough?
Dude isn't catching murder cases anymore, so what would you expect? Majority of rappers that become popular sell out, that's just the way it goes. Pac sold out, Puffy made Big sell out, Jay-Z was a sell out from the beginning, Nas tried to sell out, Snoop sold out, Ice T plays a cop, Ice Cube plays in kid movies, Dr. Dre sells headphones that black people can't afford. You really can't expect much more. The endorsement deals, movies, TV, reality shows, etc., don't bother me really. It's more what they do with their music. Biggie doing a song like Juicy (album version) or One More Chance (remix) is much worse then him doing a St. Ides or Pepsi commercial, in my opinion. To me, Jay-Z is the biggest sell out of all time because of his music, not because of his deals outside of music. Ice T might do Ice Loves Coco, but he also has that The Art of Rap documentary. To me, that makes what he does outside of rap, on TV, not really much of a sell out, because what he represents in regards to Hip-Hop and the music, is still true to what it's supposed to be true to. The Paradox Of Fools And Wise Men: “The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser men so full of doubts.” ― Bertrand Russell |

Wow, maybe I'm taking this too seriously? I'm sure this will be the new trend towards advertising. Who's gonna team up next?
Nicki Minaj and Betty Crocker? Ice T and Splenda? Eminem and BC Powders? Any others? |

Hey HOC good to see you're back! It just bugs me is all. You'd think that the success of an artist like Snoop would allow him to keep his integrity intact by refraining from pimping out a rehashed version of one his hit songs. I mean it doesn't even make any sense, pocket like it's hot... ermwha? Dude he's peddling a tricycle with a microwave oven attached to the back of it. It's dumb. Rapsters are only supposed to do cool stuff. If Metalica revamped Enter Sandman into Chips Ahoy Man, it'd be pretty dumb too. Don't get me wrong tho, I think celebrities should proudly endorse anything and everything they like. That vid in my opinion is just an awful way to do it.
Although I'm not an admirer of the rap genre I do respect it for being a legitimate form of musical art. The skill and efficacy has to genuine for me to appreciate any type of music. My youthful sojourn with rap began with the Sugar Hill Gang and Grand Master Flash only to soon be ushered out by Beasties and Two Live Crew. I don't spend money on the stuff anymore but I still hear something cool every now and then. Tell me this ain't some tight shit? |
