The democrats are going to continue to lose if their platform is "anti-Trump." Just saying how bad Trump is won't get any election victories if the Republican you're running against is actually putting out a real message. Trump might not be popular but it appears that it might not be hurting republicans as much as the democrats had hoped. Dems need to find an identity and a message that resonates with voters. Right now it's Trump Trump Trump but that's obviously not working.

In addition to this point, it's possible that the shooting in DC might have helped the Republicans to motivate their base to show up at the poles.

It is important to remember this was a ruby red gerrymandered district that nearly flipped blue. The fact that Dems did not flip this is nowhere near as worrying to them as the fact that the Republicans had to fight for a gimme district should be to them.

Yeah but, Trump only won the district by 1 point. In the midterms the dems will have to find a way to flip 24 of these traditionally red districts. Plus like 30 more that are red but went for Hillary. This was a test. They dumped everything they had into it. 7,000 out of state donors went for the democrat including Hollywood celebs and rich New Yorkers. Look at it this way, the last democrat to run and lose in this district spent only $1,000 on his campaign and got 38% of the vote. They spent $30,000,000 this time to climb 10 points and still lose. Good way to destroy future fundraising efforts.

Meanwhile republicans are out there talking about things Americans care about. Immigration. Terrorism. Fixing Obamacare. Jobs. The economy. While democrats just want to run on social snowflake issues and "Trump sucks."

Good luck flipping red districts with that agenda.

You're kidding, right? I have seen zero evidence that Republicans have any interest in "fixing" Obamacare, unless "fix" means "do away with". They want to go back to the "good old days" when only rich people could afford health care. Good luck selling that agenda.

I'm not pretending that Obamacare is perfect. It could certainly use some fixing. But that's not what the Republicans are doing. They're destroying it, and they have nothing to replace it with.

I also think it's convenient to ignore the fact that $25 million of Karen Handel's funding came from out of state super PACs, including big oil money from Texas.

Confirmed.

There's no point running these Conservative types in places where, on principle, people would rather shoot their own grandmother in the face than vote Democrat.

They should take a leaf out of Corbyn's book and present a manifesto covering issues that people care about ... with a re-branding of Independent.

At least Handel lives in the district that she is representing. Why should people vote for a carpet-bagger like Ossoff?

You bet people from all over donated small amounts to Ossoff. He wasn't a good candidate though, really.

RE: Congressional elections
As I am sure every republican lives in their district, yes?
Also he grew up in the district, lives right down the road, & will be moving down that road into district as soon as his girlfriend finishes medical school. Non-issue.

So small amounts of money from individuals is worse than million dollar donations from huge (out of state) corporations with their fingers in every slice of government pie?
