Ok. So here's your chance.

Some of us have put in hours and hours of work for TTA in various long threads about various historical subjects.

Let's hear about Conservatism. What are it's origins, why is it valid in 2016, who are it's major proponents today philosophically, academically, what are their literary works. Help us understand it. Why do you espouse it?

Put up. Or shut up.
I would think 1500 words minimum, footnotes, and references required. Surely some of you *must* have papers or *something* you can use to explain your positions to us.
(Your own work and thought, BTW ... no copy/paste jobs)
Please explain why one of Conservatism's most eloquent spokesmen (George F. Will) felt the need to leave the Republican Party in the past year, and why he is right or wrong.

Speaking of its validity its going to get a rude awakening when automation takes most jobs, and people can no longer "pull themselves up by the bootstraps" as they claim.

Doesn't look like you're getting much of a response on this one so I'm going to break your rules and refer you to an article that sums it up way better than I could. I realized conservatism was a sham during the prop 8 days in California but I grew up in a town just like this article describes, and it's dying a slow and painful death while the nearby city soaks up all of their economy. My whole family voted for Trump.

Conservative, like liberal, has a definition that's a moving target....

google Wrote:Conservatism (or conservativism) is any political philosophy that favours tradition (in the sense of various religious, cultural, or nationally-defined beliefs and customs) in the face of external forces for change, and is critical of proposals for radical social change.

So it's the Dakota Injuns in the face of the oil cartels.

And it's Clinton in the face of Sanders (official) and Trump (superficial).

And it's like all religions.

It's nostalgia and it's generationally dependent.

Conservatism is an ideal in which whatever is construed as alien or different is rejected. It's based on a belief, which all peoples tend to have, that they are something special and unique. In the first paragraph, George Will reveals this mindset with the reference to American exceptionalism.

It's a special case of the anthropocentric world view. A conservative seeks to preserve(and in some cases revert to) a status quo. They are reactionaries at heart. At its mildest, it consists of general conformism and provincialism. At its worst - pogroms, genocides.

We have to remember that what we observe is not nature herself, but nature exposed to our method of questioning ~ Werner Heisenberg

Conservatism is the notion that policies are justified on the basis that they have been the current policy for a while.

Basically conservative is synonymous with retard.

I wouldn't call conservative retards, but your resume is pretty much accurate. Conservatism is not a clear political position. Its the idea that the status quo in terms of economical, social and institutional policies should be preserved. Reactionnary are those who would like to undo some changes to return to a pre-existing position. Progressive are those who want to shift the status quo while maintaining the integrity of the society while revolutionnary are those who wants radical changes.

Freedom is servitude to justice and intellectual honesty.

I have had to rethink many of my conservative views since I started thinking for myself, however, I do think government is too big and too wasteful. But the devil is in the details.
Like a good friend once told me. "Everyone wants government to cut the fat, just not their fat."
No matter how worthy a project may be, we should be able to figure out a way to pay for it, without taxxing the hell out of us. It's not about about Dems or the GOP anymore, they are all full of shit.
