Actually, I didn't mention that he's homeless out of pity, but rather to further point to his decency, in that he doesn't beg & such.

Well, I didn't have in mind exactly pity (though I resent that sympathy has been loaded with such a negative connotation; damn Kant and his blabbering). It was more like kicking someone when he's down. Well, that didn't quite explain it, but the morning coffee hasn't really kicked in yet. But it's to an extent the same reason why I would never talk religion with the people from the favela where I was volunteering - some of them had it so bad, that I didn't want to be the one to take their crutch away from them.
