RE: Countdown the Election 2012
How is Obama at 3:1 odds?
Last time I saw the election on the news Cuntface was up 20points.

Hundred bucks says Obama loses the popular vote but wins the electoral college.

RE: Countdown the Election 2012
I'm confused.

So you're saying, Obama will win the majority of voters.
BUT because your electoral system sucks giant donkey swollen balls, he'll lose because the Republicans will win more electoral things?

Nate Silver is a nerd statistician. I also think, however, it is clear he wants Obama to win, but I don't know if that plays a part in his analysis or not.

He basically runs the numbers on the polls, looking at trends, averages, swings states, the electoral map, etc. He has been projecting Obama with over a 70% chance of winning for some time now.

I agree with him. Basically, looking at the polls in the swing states, taking into account the electoral map, maybe certain trends and accounting for things like the Latino vote, Obama is up, pretty much consistently, in states that would give him the road to electoral victory. However, for Romney, his road is a lot tougher, and you would have to expect a massive swing of voters (not extremely massive, but unlikely shift), in a lot of different areas, to sway his way. It would actually be pretty surprising if that happened.

He actually said it the other way around, but yes. I doubt that will happen though.

To add, if I was the Obama campaign, I'd end the whole thing now by running two negative adds, consistently. One would be just his 47% comment repeated, and the other one would be about him being an untrustworthy, flip flopping, Mormon.

Obama will not have the same turnout as he did in 2008. That is clear. Many Obama votes in 08 will be Romney votes this year. Bet on it. Romney wins popular, Obama wins electorate, Obama is still president.

November 6 - the day when the world finds out if the US crashes into high speed fascism, or continues its slow crawl into the same.

It'll certainly be a very interesting result. That's the beauty of US elections, never a dull moment.

Ding, ding, ding, ding...and the prize goes to Muffs! Big Grin

The electoral college worked back when it was created and travel and communication was much slower. Today's technology should be used and the electoral college put to rest. It's way outdated and unfair...contrary to popular belief, we do NOT have an election by popular vote.
