RE: Country or State Symbols
The national plant of Ireland is the shamrock. This is well known throughout the world because of Saint Patricks day. Legend has it that St Patrick used the shamrock to illustrate the Christian teachings of the Holy Trinity (the three heart shaped leaves) to the pagan Irish, thus spreading the word of Christianity throughout Ireland in a way that appealed to its people.

I can't make it from scratch, I have to cheat and use a box. Tongue

My mom and brother make pretty good gumbo, though. Smile

I hope you like beer 'cause I think Oregon has the highest rate of beer drinking among all the states. In Portland people get together and do a beer crawls from one pub to another. I'd never heard of a "beer crawl" until I moved here. Rolleyes

Meh, it's okay, dark beer is good. I'm more of a wine/tequila fan myself. We have pub crawls here. They're very popular for the atheist groups. Since I'm a 2 limit drinker I'm not much good at a pub crawl. Too much of a crawl to my car if I have more than two.

I love the art crawls though. We have those too. Smile

RE: Country or State Symbols
When aliens come to me and say "Take me to your leader" I will claim that I am the leader, but need help getting rid of a few rivals and will agree to transfer the world to the aliens' possession as a planetary vassal state if they give me the space guns I need to conquer the world and rule over it as a baron, subordinate only to my alien overlords. When this happens, the answer to this question will be the same for all of you.

The state animal will be a yak.
