Creating A New World
Alright guys, I'm back, not such a depressing subject this time. Lately in my world issues and modern history classes we've been doing assignments related to nationalities and government and how nations are run. In moder history we did an assignment about being the first president of Croatia and trying to keep things running smooth and keep the country together. In world issues we're doing a sort of United Nations roleplay, I got the USA T_T... and on a completely unrelated note, theres going to be a lot less Polish people in Poland after this is over xD.

So I figure why don't we try that here, backstory is that WW3 has caused all the worlds nations to dissolve, society regresses to a tribal state but X number of years later people start coming together in larger numbers to eventually form what will become the new nations of the world. So...

Whats your nation's name?
Where abouts would it be?
What group(s) came to found it/what language would they speak?
How big is it?(I've heard that one before)
What kind of society is it?
How does it interact with other groups and/or its neighbors?
Whats their technology level at?
As much detail as you can give really, try to keep it at least somewhat realistic - No energy weapons, it may be in the future, but not that far in the future. We'll say for sake of argument that alternate energy sources were fairly common in first world countries. keep in mind the human tendency to believe what they want even in the face of evidence to the contrary, especially since there won't be many scientists to explain things.

After thats out of the way we will start the international relations.
(Those of you who like the fallout series might enjoy the concept of this.)

Hey brother christian, with your high and mighty errand, your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying.

RE: Creating A New World
This nation creation talk reminds me of this pretty old site I used to frequent:

www.nationstates.net

They let you name and create your own nation and every day you are asked to deal with a problem. How you deal with those problems slowly defines your nation in a way that you may not have intended. The details of your nation is described in a paragraph that is usually humorous.

I think my old nation was The Oppressed Peoples of Kevin Costner and our motto was something along the lines of "If You Build It, They Will Come" and our national currency was the Chit (waterworld). I kept ignoring the citizens advice so much that I was labeled a ruthless tyrant running a dictatorship, regarding my populace as playthings. Which of course is what one would expect if Kevin Costner ruled a nation.

RE: Creating A New World
I'm starting a new nation for old times sake. I was going with The Colony of Aborted Fetuses with our currency as the Placenta... but it was taken. So now I'm The Federation of Chronic Masturbators... with the currency being The Dirty Sock. I just made it mandatory to include several races in television broadcasts... gotta have all colors be an option when surfing the net into pleasureville, right?

I have got to quit reading your posts when I'm sick B_C, it starts a coughing fit 50% of the time. I can't believe nationstates is still up, I don't think I've checked mine in 6 years. I abandoned my people, hope that precedent doesn't continue with this country...

I assigned your questions numbers for ease of answering.
1 No name up front, that would take time.
2 southern US. Someplace with a decent climate.
3 The people that I would gather around me with similar interests: Survival and knowledge. So any previous background can apply. English is certainly preferred, but Spanish may be welcomed as well if we get enough people who speak it in the group. And all would be encouraged to become as bilingual as possible.
4 Small. I'm looking at attracting people on a more intellectual bent. People who refuse to learn will be politely asked to leave. So a few hundred to start, give us maybe 20-40 square miles. Not so much that it's difficult to defend, but enough to farm, forage, hunt, etc.
5 Rather egalitarian, but definitely a patriarchy in terms of I'm in charge. There would be a council so that opinions can be heard, but my word is the law. "And you will know my name is the lord when I lay my vengeance upon you! *gunshots*"
6 Suspicious but friendly. We are open for trade, especially when it comes to advancing interests in knowledge or technology. We are also open to treaties and alliances, but we consider military options LAST.
7 I wasn't around for 1920's America, but let's start there and work our way back up. One of our main activities is recovering written info on the technology of the pre-war era, and we value education, so the goal is to get back on the track we were on. This means we may or may not have stumbled on some of your alternative energy stuff, but we are scrambling, experimenting and researching in an attempt to understand it fully.

Something something something complete

RE: Creating A New World
sounds good cfhm

Here's mine
1 Many names because they aren't entirely unified - most common is "Wavers"
2&4 Maritimes of Canada/Northern USA; territory stretches from Maine, into New Brunswick, through Eastern Quebec and up to the border of Newfoundland.
3 Mostly the survivors of the harsh nuclear winters of Canada that resulted from WW3, that being the people who had the knowledge to stay alive, and find resources without freezing to death. They would most likely speak English, French and maybe some would still be speaking mandarin.
5 Tribal, but democratic - varies slightly between settlements. Rules are based on practical knowledge, not emotional wellbeing or ideology.
6 Isolationist, territorial, but won't hunt down their neighbors. Trades are common between them and the gangs of Quebec city.
7 Because of the mostly rural communities from before the war, hunting equipment is fairly common, gas engines that still work are easy to come by but gasoline is difficult to find. The suburbs and urban areas still have some electronics shops that haven't been completely sacked. The group gets their name from the first set of radio equipment they got working, which they looted from an old radio studio called "The Wave". After this breakthrough they started trying to gather more of this equipment, using some of it to locate still working broadcast stations in the area. Most of their settlements are either fortified broadcast studios or makeshift villages with radio antennas at the center. These settlements keep their radios powered either by wood-gasifiers connected to jury rigged diesel motors or solar panels. These methods of generating power are unreliable in Maritime weather. which means in the winter months communication between groups across their territory is all but impossible, because of this there is not unified leadership but instead a group of tribe chiefs that meet when dire situations arise.

Illiteracy is high but so are technical skills, metal working, wiring, basic signals operation, marksmanship and survival skills are commonly taught.

The People's Democratic Republic of North America
Quote:Where abouts would it be?
From the remains of the more liberal states and provinces of the U.S and Canada.
Quote:What group(s) came to found it/what language would they speak?
Groups and languages would be whoever lives there and whatever language they speak at the time of the Republic's creation.
Quote:How big is it?(I've heard that one before)
Its relatively populous considering the regions in which it controls (US Northeast, a few Canadian cities, maybe across the American N.W and California?)
Quote:What kind of society is it?
Its a Socialist Democratic government, so it would be pretty egalitarian with many personal freedoms, though a heavily regulated economy to ensure that there is economic stability. Much of the government's budget is focused on (in order) education, welfare, science & other research (including space programs), economic stimulus (as needed), arts promotion, and the military.
Quote:How does it interact with other groups and/or its neighbors?
The PDRNA maintains a strict policy of neutrality in war, though will protect its borders if directly threatened or attacked. The government views peaceful mediation as necessary to ensure global fair trade as well as prevention of large scale war. Small scale wars are viewed as an inevitability.
Quote:Whats their technology level at?
The level of technology in the PDRNA is as high as it could salvage from the remains of the previous civilization, though weapons technology is restricted to the government only.

And I posted the flag, for the lulz.

RE: Creating A New World
The Waver's remain wary of the PDRNA due to the constant harassment received from PDRNA forces because of the wavers connections with the tribal gangs of central Quebec, but there is still trade between the wave drug runners and independent organizations within the PDRNA.

So apparently my image link doesn't work. No matter.
The waver's banner is essentially just the canadian flag but instead of the maple leaf each individual group uses their own emblem, most of them have mutually agreed to use the logo of the original wave radio station, although there are slight variations between each group.

A PDRNA spokesperson makes a public announcement informing the public that all military actions on the PDRNA/Waver's border were drills, and refers to the PDRNA's strict policy of neutrality.
