Re: Critical Thinking
I'll ask around. My class used critical thinking books, but that was when I was 11. I'm sure those are out of print but I'll see if I can ask some people who might know.

RE: Critical Thinking
Shouldn't this be in the philosophy section?

I don't think his book would be a scholastic breakdown of skeptical thinking, but a real-world application of skeptical thinking used to debunk the actual lunacy that abounds out there.

Randi's a street fighter against woo.

I also love Randi. I adore him, almost to the point of deifying him. In fact, I worry about how the world is going to cope when he passes away.

I don't know, and frankly, I don't care either. Critical thinking forms a basis for everything this forum is about.

Not really. Critical thinking is a foundational skill for any enquiry, not just philosophy.

RE: Critical Thinking
Foundational it may be, but at least at my Alma Mater critical thinking is taught out of the philosophy department. On the other hand figures such as William Lane Craig also emerge from that department... so ymmv.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

RE: Critical Thinking
Harvey, what do you intend to do with critical thinking?

RE: Critical Thinking
Carl Sagan's book... can't remember the title but the subtitle was "science as a candle in the dark"... that was nice. More popular science than critical thinking though. I learned a lot of critical thought stuff which I found useful from browsing back issues of Skeptical Inquirer magazine. Godel, Escher, Bach by ... fuck I can't remember who, also a great book but maybe too deep for me. I always get to chapter 4 and can't read any further 'cos my brain's scrambled. But lots of logic stuff in there - not really critical thinking but fascinating reading.
