Hmmm, so prayer doesn't do it? Curious indeed.

RE: Curing Down Syndrome
Here is the real paper published on this topic by the scientists that did the research:
http://stm.sciencemag.org/content/5/201/201ra120

What they did is:
Through genetic manipulation they grew a certain mouse strain, that DID NOT have Down Syndrome, but phenotypes with similar structural and behavioral defects.
With this mouse strain they established that a certain signaling pathway in neuronal cells is a cause for this phenotype.
From this they assume that Down Syndrome has a defect in that signaling pathway. However, more experiments are necessary to validate this assumption.

This has nothing to do with treatment of DS. There just has been a hype on the media again, providing an awful lot of misinformation. ahhhh, journalism..

Fun "paradox": The higher the selection pressure, the slower evolution takes place.

Ah, journalists... when the only thing you're good at is scribbling and exploiting the suffering of others...

Actually, scratch that, vultures play an important role in nature and I like them.

Also, one of the first things that came to my mind when reading this was Flowers for Algernon. Had no idea I was soooo conventional Rolleyes

I was just going to say, vultures don't contribute to anyone's suffering, they prevent it. What they eat is already dead, and they are instrumental in keeping bad bacteria from multiplying and perhaps getting someone/something sick.

Bottom line of this:

Vultures are better humans than journalists. Did I get that right? I hope so Big Grin

RE: Curing Down Syndrome
Wouldn't this be more of a prevention than a cure for Down Syndrome if it were to be effective.

I mean, once someone is born with DS, you can't reverse it, right?

Just trying to see if I am comprehending the OP and other posts correctly.

I'm not anti-social. I'm pro-solitude. Sleepy
