Dog, unless they are your personal body guards, they can't get there in time.

You overstate your case. It also leads to guns being used to stop an assault thousands of times a year.

The great joy of it is... WE the PEOPLE - well, you the people really - can *make* them illegal Big Grin Then we'll make all the gun people wear little red fezzes. And anyone who wants to will be allowed to throw fruit at them.

No I stated a case with sourcing, you state a faith article spewed forth but never once proven by pro-gun advocates.

So, in summary, Ammosexual Gun Nut wants to believe the DC Police Chief is changing her stance on guns, when in actuality she isn't.

Seems legit.

Guns, guns, guns! Everyone gets a gun!

Thousands of times a year? I thought you were more evidence-based in your claims than that. Drinking Beverage

You're exactly right on target. Some people need to get over their need to think they have to have a gun to be safe.

Er... how fast is your average homicide occurring? See, I think that they *can* get there in time with a bit more thought put into how they are deployed.

My neighbourhood where I live is generally peaceful, despite that Joburg is a violent city. It's even relatively safe to walk around at night. Armed guards patrol it regularly - they have two vehicles and it's 24 hour protection. It's a total stop-gap solution. The real solution is to end the wealth disparity in SA (highest in the world, to our shame), and not by shooting all the poor people. But that takes too long. In the meantime, at least for those who can afford it, private security works well and they do respond - the company in my neighbourhood claims a 2 minute response time.

This kind of security won't stop a madman hell-bent on killing, but it means that weapons are concentrated in the hands of specialists, much like building is a specialised job that calls for certain skills.

I don't think that nearly the same level of security could be achieved by arming each household. People have their own lives to live, they don't want to think about security all the time, so they do what everyone in a capitalist society does - allow the specialists to handle it, and go off and earn money to pay those specialists by being specialists themselves - swatting flies or whatever they do for a living.

This is a voluntary thing, so there's no reason the same couldn't be done by private individuals in the US. I think if a government response to security is needed, this is what should be advocated for instead of looser gun laws.
