RE: D&D In Character Thread
Thoven walks along the forested path cautiously scanning the path in front of him and the trees surrounding with one of his two rapiers drawn and ready. The sounds of goblin chatter in the air tell him they are close to their goal but close could be anything in these damn blasted trees. When the halfling suggest that they stop and send scout ahead to see what the situation ahead is he is inwardly relieved and is even more relieved when the she elf sneaks off. "Blasted trees, how is one to judge from where an attack might come?" He thinks inwardly.

Onward, my faithful steed!

Gwen readied her bow, made sure her short sword was within easy reach in case the worst should happen, and stepped quietly into the forest, heading in the direction Isia had taken. Surely she could use some assistance. And perhaps Gwen would bump into Owlister along the way. Big Grin

Due to your woodcraft you are able to draw to within a score of paces of the goblins. You find them lounging in the shade with weapons cast aside gathered in a circle. After a few moments you hear them cry out again in their guttural tongue and you finally see what they are doing. One of the goblins is throwing dice and the others appear to be wagering on the throws. There are 4 goblins here and the entrance to the mine is across the clearing some 20 yards behind where they now sit. You see more hastily made defensive spots (mostly rocks and debris piled up) but no one and nothing stands at them. It would appear that these goblins are supposed to be on guard duty but have let their lazy nature and natural dislike of the sun take over. You have not been noticed and can now choose to either make your way back to the group or attempt some other action.

Now that she'd been afforded a good look at their adversaries, Gwen decided to rejoin the group and share this new information with them.

You make it back to the party with no issues. As you come out of the woods and onto the road a familiar weight lands on your shoulder. Owlister has finished hunting and has returned.

Gwen gave Owlister's feathers an affectionate ruffling and approached the others. Ordinarily, she'd have been hesitant to speak, but they were each quiet, awaiting whatever information she had to share.

"There are four of them... sitting in the shade and playing dice, weapons forgotten and cast aside. The entrance to the mine itself is across the clearing, about twenty yards from where they sit. They've more defensive spots - mostly debris and rocks gathered into piles - but no one is utilizing them."

As her briefing drew to a close, Gwen felt the heat of embarrassment creep into her face and arms. Seems her confidence was short-lived, and now the feel of all those eyes was too much for her.

She drew closer to Kopai, again feeling a sort of kinship with the druid, this man who had seemed as uncomfortable and ill-at-ease in the village as she had been. "That's all," she said softly, wishing to Oberon they would look away from her now. "That's all the information I have."

The latter, no doubt, was praying. The former? Who knew. Gwen stuck close to Kopai, but neither spoke. Isia split off the road almost immediately, passing through the trees. Leaving only Milfa to speak.

Her piece said, Miruion let his thoughts pass his lips...

"By morning's light there will not be many goblins above ground." His glance upward echoed Nathlana's - the sky was propitiously bright and clear. "I suppose these are their forward guards. If we wish to maintain surprise we must be sure none escape to the tunnels."

I was indeed praying, my friend. Praying for R'holor to bestow His Divine Favor upon us, to make our strikes against our foes more accurate. Asking for Him to grant us some extra Protection From Evil, to make our armor more effective at deflecting blows rent by these filthy creatures!

That was an excellent job reconnoitering our enemies, ....Gwen is it?.... excellent job!

Only 4? Should be easy enough to surround them on 3 sides; having at least one of our more stealthy members sneak around to the cave entrance so that none escape to warn the rest inside.

But I have no pretensions of leading this party in matters of tactics; my only obligation is to be at the forefront of battle until any of you need me to act as a battle field doctor. Whenever that happens I need you to call out my name, or the name of the Lord of Light, R'holor, to heal you. "Groh'L!!! Help me" is enough. R'holor will instantly snap me out of my battle rage and direct me to your side.

Also!!! As it looks as if we are to be fighting in close quarters, any of you who are not familiar with Red Clerics should know that there will be heat emanating from my body while I am in combat. It will not cause you pain, but I don't want it breaking your concentration at the wrong moment, so know to expect it if you get close to me.

I am ready when you are, adventurers, and for anything!

Isia returned right after Gwen and heard about the goblins.

"I could hear them and I could tell it would be easy but if you say they are not even close to their weapons, that makes things much easier. I'm pretty good at passing unnoticed, but I'd need back up. I'd first have to look around and see if I could make a move. I say we go for it. Now."

She turned to Gwen.

"How about you, Wallflower? You need to keep our asses covered with that bow."

With an impatient tone in her voice, she turned to the others.

"Anyone else feeling like participating?"

"Tis, a fine tactic their my friend" Thoven says while adjusting his weapons. "I suggest that anyone familiar with a bow or the special arts attack from the side whilst us familiar with frontal attacks rush them." "Isia, seems to have a knack for only being seen when wants to so I suggest she get behind them and cut off any retreat." "I have never had the pleasure of working with one of your order before good cleric but I have heard stories from other traveling mercs and I am more than happy to have you on my side."

Onward, my faithful steed!
