I loved the logic that followed, "...and that's why I'm here."

Because, to a Dwarf, becoming an adventurer is for the failures. Laugh out load

I also loved that every time we sneaked past a group of guards, he'd ask if he could hit them with his axe. The delight when we finally attacked was so right-on for that character. Excellent roleplaying. Really made my day.

Into the Dungeon
Level 1
Hall of the Beating Drums

[Image: pit_of_war_blacksmith_by_hamsterfly-d4ggebm.jpg]
Slowly they descended the narrow stairs into a 50-foot-wide octagonal chamber with a domed ceiling 20 feet high. The walls were adorned with painted murals depicting hideous orc gods giving rise to the orc race, shaping them from the earth itself. The murals also showed orcs forging weapons. Four shallow alcoves contained life-size statues of orc warriors beating drums, although the statue in the northeast corner had collapsed in rubble. To the north, they saw a set of doors with orc runes carved into the architrave. To the south, a narrow staircase descending.

In the center of the floor plunged into darkness. And the sound of cascading water rised up from below.

As they exited the stairs, they bumped into an orc guard who was standing watch and was shocked to see the hooded figures appear behind him.

"Soh'lv! Nuqdaw vo'blmatlhba?" (Who are you? Where did you come from?) The Orc shouted at the party.

"Oh, uhm. Ok. What do I say?" Lathron looked meekly to his group.

He was donning the magical hood that made his face appear as an orc, as well as being the only one in the party trusted enough to translate orcish. But Lathron was not used to speaking under pressure.

"Pagh naDev. VIwovrupmoH wItI'nISmo' ravDaq 'elbogh." (You can't be here. Go back to the main floor.)
The orc pointed in the direction they came.
Vargurk whispered "Can I hit him with my axe yet?"

Aina'naur looked to his anxious companion and very bluntly said "No." Then turned his attention back to the nervous elf. " Lathron tell him we're here to question the prisoners."

"We are here to question the prisoners?'." Lathron asked

"Prisoners? " The guard scratched his head "Do you mean the sacrifices? "

Lathron paused for a while thinking about the next thing to say. "Yeah. The sacrifices."

The Guard nodded and very perplexed stated "They already started ceremony. "

At this point the other orc guards had all had their attention fixed on Lathoron.

Vargurk felt he needed to chime in "Can I smash them with my axe now?"

The Professor responded "No. Lathoron press the ugancy of the matter."
"Yes, we know this. That is why we need to ask the question before the time is too late." Lathron said with as much confidence as he could muster.

The Orc took a long pause and looked to the rest of his regimen, for some sort of acknowledgement that he wasn't the only one not informed. They simply shrugged. Not to look as if he was a stupid Orc he took it upon himself to confirm what they said was true.

"Okay.'" the Orc guard stated and pointed to the stairs down.

Our party wasted no time in hopes that this simple minded guards didn't come to realization of their foolish decision.

Level 2
Hall of the War Unfolding

They descended into another octagonal room. More murals painted on the walls depicting Orc armies marching into battle. Shallow alcoves contain four statues of proud Orc warriors blowing horns. Chambers branch out to the west, north and east, and they appeared to contain standing sarcophagi in alcoves.

Water gushed from the natural fissures in the back of the western annex and the northwest statue alcove. The water flowed down the central shaft, and two standing waterfalls plunged into the dark abyss.

"Dose anyone else see that?" Aina'naur pointed to the statue in the north eastern portion of the wall.

The statue had cobwebs forming around it and a gentle breeze could be seen pushing them forward. A suttle movement that could only have been noticed by a elf.

He noticed behind it was a secret stair case. "Hey it's another secret passage." The party followed Aina'naur down the narrow shaft.

(pressed for time I didn't get to do any read threws to try to correct at least some of my errors. sorry.)

Level 3
Hall of Raging Battle

Gianna and Thom snuck forward. The secret stairwell took them behind another statue, and she was small enough to peak threw its legs. She saw another octagonal chamber. Two waterfalls poured the shaft in the ceiling and plunged through a similar shaft carved into the floor, crashing somewhere far below.

Four Orc brutes stood in the room. Two guarding the a descending stair well and another two guarding some double doors near by.

Thom pulled back and with a hushed voice dissuced what their corse of action should be.

"Ok. Here is what we're going to do. Lathron, Ainar, and Vargurk you three are going to Gianna, the professor and myself will stick back. Those falls are making enough noise they probable wont be able to hear us. While you three are distracting the orcs at the stairs we'll attack the guards at the door way." Thom said looking for an agreement from the rest of the team.

The team agreed and parted ways.

Lathorn was the first to approach the guards.

"Be gone! The ceremony is about to commence and can not be interrupted!" A large Brutish Orc shouted at them as the entered "Return to the surface or die! "

" Yeah, hi. We were hoping we could talk to the sacrifices before that took place. " Lathorn timidly said

" This will be your last warning worm. " The orc brut palmed his club.

Thom nodded to Gianna who sprung from under the legs of the Orc statue and threw a bullet at the closest Orcs head. The hit stuck true and killed the Orc instantly. Stand to the side of the falling orc another Brute looked on in disarray.

Seeing the orc fall Ainaur pulled out his mace and slammed the skull of the orc that was barking orders at them. Lathoron sent a surge of magic missiles into the gut of the one standing to the side.

Thom & Professor Byran jumped from the cover behind the statue. Thom sent a volly of arrows into the confused orc. His new wolf compaion stood by his side with hair raised. He was hesitant to send him into battle because he felt he may not be ready for it. The Professor summon for a ray of fire. Gianna cracked her sling once again bracking the air like a whip. Landing a devistation blow to the orc Thom had just punchured. It fell to it's knees. And fumbled around on the floor like a man that lost his glasses.

The orc that had been under attack from Lathrns crew was frofling at the mouth. His eye red with rage, he popped open a bottle he had at his waist coat and drank it. Thom saw this and sent his wolf. Now was the time to see if he was ready. The Wolf wasted no time runing across the slick floor its nail clacking on the cold stone, then with a mighty leap jumped in the air and biting the neck of the inrage orc. It shook it's head back and forth blood spurit forth. The wolf draged the limp body of the orc to the edge of the pit and threw it down. The lifeless body of the orc made a splash in the casim below.

Wolf looked back to his new master and waged his tail seeking approval.

"Well Shit." Thom said

Having a moment to breath they got a better look at the room. The walls here were adorned with painted murals depicting orc legions slaughtering humans, elves, and dwarves on the field of battle and setting fir to various castles and settlements. Shallow alcoves contain four statues of screaming orc warriors grasping double axes.

Double doors are set into the middle of the west, north and east walls and to the awaits a narrow descending staircase. Orc runes were carved in the western wall depicting a unblinking eye.

They open the doors that the two orcs were guarding and black smoke billowed out. The sounds of iron hitting iron were heard. And heat could be felt on there faces.

"Close it." Ainaur ordered.

"Would the Orc have blacksmiths down here?" Thom ask

"They are pretty stupid. But I don't think that is the direction we would want to head." The Proffesor stated. "Gianna why don't you try to open that northern door."

Gianna sprang into action pulling out her lock pick tools. Once her tool went in the key whole a surge of magical energy destroyed it.

"Well. Okay then." The professor said. He spit into his hands and spoke
"Magicae deprehendere" Magic auras emitted from the northern door and the western door.

Lathron fumbled around with his wizards book. "Knock, knock oh here it is. Pulsate." and the door opened. Only to reveal that the ceiling had caved in this room.

"Vargruk do you think we could clear this?" Ainaure asked

"I failed quarry school." Vargurk said with a straight face.

While all this going Alis the Elven Clerk on was looking at the other large magical door.

"Do you know what this is?" She looked to Ainnuar with great enthusiasm

Everyone shook their heads no.

"This say's this in the tomb of Kursk One-Tusk. He ravaged the land of Thar changing the land scape to what it is today. One of the greatest most vile orc war lord to ever live. Just fascinating." Alis said with a smile.

"Yes, well let's see if he's home. Pulsate.

The doors magically opened. and inside a pale witchlight fell on a heavy stone sarcophagus resting in the middle of the tomb. The smell of mildew entered their nostrils and murky water collected in puttles on the floor.

"NOPE!" Ainuar shouted and walked off.

The rest of the party closed the door and followed Ainaur down the narrow stare well.
