RE: Damn! Kepler telescope...
It may be dead in space, but the work has only just begun. Over 2000 planetary candidates have been identified by Kepler... all of those have to be studied and categorized.

It's done sterling work during it's short life span...

It'll be a really sad day when they finally shut down Hubble... the images it's captured have genuinely changed people's lives.

Ah, but the James Webb Space Telescope ...

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

I know, and I'm looking forward to it's launch... but I'll still be sad to see Hubble decommissioned. I have a lot of fond memories of seeing it's photographs for the first time.

Yes, it will.

But I think it will be operated until it fails.

It's planned to be shut down by 2020 I believe... but it won't be before the JWST comes online.

RE: Damn! Kepler telescope...
I thought the JWST was supposed to be a 2015 launch? I guess I haven't been keeping up with the delays and budget cuts... That or my memory is going.

I think that was the plan, but I think it might have been moved back to 2018...
