It's not to make the day longer. It's so that rather than having the sun rise at 4:30 in the morning and set at 9:00, it rises at 5:30 and sets at 10:00. For a lot of people's schedules, that's a lot more useful.
Umm... That was a joke...

Ever since electrical lighting was invented that's kinda moot for most people.

I didn't say it wasn't; I just said that it wasn't to make the day "longer".

Oh, I know you weren't endorsing the reasoning.

But I was saying that the stated policy justification does not apply and indeed for the most part never did. So there's that.

It's stupid and should be banned from life.

RE: Daylight Savings Time
Meh. I get up when I wake up, and go to bed when I'm tired. The numbers on the clock are irrelevant.

So many cats, so few good recipes.

gosh I wish I could do that. I've been chasing the clock all morning.

Well, just so you know, I usually get up around 4:30-5:00. I rarely miss a sunrise, especially in winter!

Unfortunately, I'm a slave to the clock. A necessary evil of my job.

I sure don't miss that. Always been a morning person, but I admit, I hated being a slave to the clock too. Nowadays I'm only a slave on Wednesdays.

....come to think of it, I think I'll take the rest of the day off. Consider

So many cats, so few good recipes.

RE: Daylight Savings Time
I know retailers love it.

People shop most in the evening and shop longer and more frequent when the days are longer.

Just some stats I read a few years ago.

"If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story." Orson Welles
