RE: Democrats filibustering for gun control
Anyone who says that suppressors should be registered on the off chance that they'll be used for nefarious purposes is implying that the mere ownership of a suppressor will somehow make the owner more likely to use it for illegal purposes.............

A person who will go through the process of "legally" buying a suppressor is NOT the type of person to use it with evil intent in the first place.

A criminal, who intends to use a suppressor for ill -- isn't going to buy a suppressor in a legal manner -- but will simply commission a knowledgeable machinist to custom build one for him.
It's NOT hard... Plans for workable suppressors are easily available.

So once again -- we have a gun law that does NOTHING to prevent any crime, nor make it any easier to track down a criminal.

It just punishes the law abiding, for the actions of the criminal....

Good go.....

You get my next speeding ticket.... Fair enough??? It's the same thing...

Hell, if you asked people on the evening of Sept 10, 2001 if the events they would see in 12 hours' time would ever happen in real life, they would have shaken their heads and said it sounded like the plot to a bad Jerry Bruckheimer movie. In both cases we look back and realized that what we were doing or the policies under law were hazardous and made appropriate changes to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again.

And, as for your bullshit about still waiting for a sniper attack, you ever been in a situation where you can see an accident about to happen, you do nothing and it does? This is kind of like that. Consider the idea of interpreting the Second Amendment to allow people to freely possess hydrogen bombs. 99.9% of the public would realize the gravity of the situation and handle such a device with great care and responsibly. 0.1% would not. Quite a large percentage of the population would realize this arrangement is extremely foolish and argue for legislation to prohibit this arrangement. Yet nothing has happened. No one has yet gone crazy and nuked a city. The conclusion you would argue is that this arrangement is safe. Reason states that it is not.

While the destructive power of hydrogen bombs is hyperbolically higher that conventional small arms (although the death toll from the lowly AK-47 tops that of even Tzar Bomba by millions to nothing) the same argument can be made here about small arms. See the examples above. The easy proliferation of weapons facilitates these tragedies, which would not have happened on the scale, or with as many casualties, as was possible because the killers had access to these kinds of guns.

It might take marginally longer to locate your hypothetical sniper if the rifle is suppressed. Is that your concern?

Yeah NZ has a few odd gun laws. One that I heard about a while back, is, if you can obtain the license for such things, you can buy full autos in NZ but it is illegal to discharge them.

Rifles don't use suppressors very well anyway -- considering the bullets are supersonic -- and the shock wave pattern of a hypersonic object is markedly different than a subsonic one...

That's why the most effective ones are used with 9mm or other smaller, subsonic calibers....

The primary usefulness in long range tactical application of a suppressor is to further conceal the shooter's location. This is invaluable for snipers, since escape time is a matter of life or death (history shows most military snipers are eventually caught or killed). So yes, a suppressor would offer a criminal a longer escape window as well, possibly allowing for more crimes and casualties before capture.

Subsonic ammunition is useful in CQB operations and not in long range sniping. Rifles will use suppressors with supersonic ammunition here.

And on a technical note, there's a difference between supersonic and hypersonic. I know of very few cartridges which offer hypersonic muzzle velocities.

But De Minimis Non Curat Lex. I digress.......

Well, it isn't going to change overnight, but it can be done. It is going to take every day and more voices. This was decades in the making.

We need to take the bullshit lie away from the GOP and NRA that gun safety advocates want a fascist state, merely for wanting to reduce gun deaths. We also cannot think short term, we need to raise or voices, every day, and not just when these events happen.

We cannot give in or give up. It is a collective effort.

We don't give a fuck about the shell game. Handgun or spray weapon, I am tired of the bullshit hypocrisy of the right claiming they want to keep them out of the wrong hands then throw a fit when we actually want to do something.

There is no polite way to put it, we make way too many and they are way too easy for Dillon Roof, abortion clinic shooters, and Va Tech shooters to obtain. They are way too easy for even legal buyers to get whom end up with a suicide in the home, or a domestic murder or accidental.

Nope sorry, tired of all the bullshit talk and shell games. The GOP and NRA have absolutely no fucking interest in reducing gun deaths of any kind. They are nothing but a blood lobby who put profits over human lives.

It is an absolute bullshit lie that the gun safety advocates want to become a fascist state. We are not the ones peddling fear and hyper nationalism and doomsday bullshit. Voting is not a crime and we are fucking tired of the GOP NRA and gun nuts holding everyone else hostage.

Time for talk is over. Either work with us or get the fuck out of the way, but the status quo is unacceptable.
