Nothing would make me happier than a full blown Rapture, kill two birds with one stone, less traffic and less woo-woo.

RE: Depopulation
We have plenty of room. Earth won't start being overpopulated until we reach something like 50 billion people or so.

No idea who these depopulized people you are talking about are though.

What about what one of pervious posters said about running out of resources? What do you think about that?

RE: Depopulation
Is the Earth overpopulated? Yes. How do we know that? Basically it's fat people and skinny people. Much of the world has skinny people in it! (you know, the ones who die a lot?") Other parts have fat people. The fat people aren't concerned with the skinny ones, but won't share. They won't share, because they don't want to be skinny! So, if there was enough food to make everyone fat, there would be no problem!

Even if that were right (which it isn't) it doesn't take into account exponential growth. Basically everything looks OK until the last moment. Imagine algae doubling in size every day and taking 50 days to cover a lake. By day 49 the lake would still be only half full.

Nor does it take it account that as it currently stands the system we have is not sustainable. Whether we are overcrowded now or later it doesn't matter. The fact is that we will be overcrowded because the system won't change until it's too late. The economy relies on exponential growth in order to function. Governments and central banks will do anything in order to avoid deflation. This is why they effectively print money.

What's more the exponentially growing global economy relies upon exponentially depleting finite resources whilst polluting a finite space at an exponential rate.

So whether the figure is 7 billion, 10 billion or 50 billion, we're still fucked. Even if we had enough time to change there would be no political pressure to change. We can see this because we had enough time and now we don't.

RE: Depopulation
We *need* less humans IMO. All (well, a lot anyway) of our problems stem from overpopulation IMO. Global warming, lack of resources, rise of global poverty... How we get to having less humans is a matter of pressing concern. I think honestly there's gonna have to be some kind of population control measures implemented soon. I know, wildly undemocratic and evil but... if one's not willing to at least consider such seemingly extreme solutions then we may end up with an *unplanned* extreme solution (such as global war) which will result in everyone being much worse off...

Edit: By population control I mean reproduction control a la China's one child policy. Not exterminating people...
