RE: Depopulation
Is the world overpopulated? Simple question to answer: Does everyone have enough to eat? If not, why not? We can transport the food. Why don't we do that? "It's economics" you say. We can't make a profit! But if food is plentiful and cheap, why can't we make a profit?
It's supply and demand, right? Well we got plenty of demand! So why don't we supply? Could it be that we can't meet the demand?

There is enough food to meet the demand. There is not enough kindness to meet the demand. Drinking Beverage

We have enough resources to support the current population and more. The problem is resources allocation. The rich consume a large share of the available resources, and would rather see much of what is left rotting in land fills rather expend the additional resources required to distribute what is left to the poor.

There is also plenty of room to improve efficiencies in order to make what we have go further.

Do you think we'd really notice the two monks currently living in caves in Tibet that would make the cut?

RE: Depopulation
How many people do you NEED????

You think you'd run out of people to meet if there was a couple million instead of 8 BILLION???

Every problem we have is linked to overpopulation. Punching out babies like popcorn isn't a solution to ANYTHING....

For something to be valuable - it's scarcity is what makes it so. Overabundance cheapens. Anyone who says "I value life" and advocates baby making on a scale writ large, doesn't understand the basics of economic theory.

Make babies valuable, by not having any.

(you know, the ones who die a lot?") Other parts have fat people. The fat people aren't concerned with the skinny ones, but won't share. They won't share, because they don't want to be skinny! So, if there was enough food to make everyone fat, there would be no problem!

Some places just have malnutrition. That is the reason why people are skinny there.

RE: Depopulation
Sure those guidestones exist.. but no indication anyone since their inception has been doing anything to actively input that. It was probably funded by some rich loons who feared the nuclear fallouts were coming.

There is a eventual resource and transportation of goods problem which in other terms is a population problem. Will most of those issues be potentially adjustable and lessened with new technologies? Maybe so, maybe not soon enough..

It's not too crowded. It's only badly organised. Very badly.

How we get to having less humans is a matter of pressing concern. I think honestly there's gonna have to be some kind of population control measures implemented soon. I know, wildly undemocratic and evil but... if one's not willing to at least consider such seemingly extreme solutions then we may end up with an *unplanned* extreme solution (such as global war) which will result in everyone being much worse off...

Edit: By population control I mean reproduction control a la China's one child policy. Not exterminating people...

What would happen if someone disobeys that one child law?
