Describe an Atheist Moral Code
After reading the moral absolutes thread, I got the idea:

There will be a new list of Thirteen (13) Commandments*.

What do you think should be on an atheist moral code?

Yes, it's been done before, but now it's our turn. Big Grin

* When you read this, you have to read it in a big booming god voice...

Help for the living. Hope for the dead. ~ R.G. Ingersoll

Freedom offers opportunity. Opportunity confers responsibility. Responsibility to use the freedom we enjoy wisely, honestly and humanely. ~ Noam Chomsky

RE: Describe an Atheist Moral Code
1 - Don't be a dick.

2 - You don't talk about the second commandment.

3 - Never own anybody.

4 - If it seems too easy, it probably is.

5 - Celebrities are not your friend.

6 - If it isn't yours, don't take it.

7 - Treat others as you would like to be treated, but ask permission first, some people are into kinky shit.

8 - Nobody cares what you ate.

9 - DON'T RAPE.

10 - You are not your favorite sports team.

11 - Never even think of harming a child.

12 - Everyone lies, act accordingly.

13 - Put down that damn phone.

1. Don't make lists of commandments.
2 - 13. See #1

RE: Describe an Atheist Moral Code
I feel like I've seen this thread on here multiple times.

My morality mostly stems from the silver rule.

-Don't do to others as you wouldn't have them do unto you.

I don't necessarily feel it necessary to positively treat others how I want to be treated. But I do want to at least (try to) avoid doing something to another person that I myself wouldn't find pleasant.

EDIT: I did some thinking, and realized that the golden rule would promote evangelizing/converting/de-converting others, while the silver rule would promote a live and let live outlook towards personal belief, which is how I feel (obviously). Not an important realization, but I found it interesting Tongue.

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

Better than the golden rule! But much more difficult.
