Determining Reality
What the fuck is it? What does it means to you? Is it what we think it is?

Does reality exist?

RE: Determining Reality
If I slap myself in the face it hurts, not only my face but my hand too.

I think I'm real, but I'm not sure about all you people. You're probably all sock puppets of Kingschosen.

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

I've come to the conclusion that it's a drug-induced illusion... virtually.

Isn't chemistry wonderful?

Maybe, back in my acid days I would have completely agreed.

Yabut! How do you know you're not still 'acidic' and the days hence are the real illusion?

Consider

Gasp you mean it's really 1983 and I'm just tripping?

Scary prospect.

Well, I know what I must do. Dump the fuckhead who sold me this shit acid and cozy up to the boy next door.

Seriously, I don't really think I'm someone's science experiment...well, not unless they're looking for a shit grade.

Even on acid I couldn't have come up with Sarah Palin as the candidate for VP.

Go!

I am convinced that the most important word in the English language, and the most under used, is the word "maybe".

"Maybe" other realities exist, and maybe they don't.

The only reality available to us (as individuals and as a species) is the reality which we perceive and experience. It is the only reality that we need to deal with. If another reality exists--say, a different dimension--we can know nothing about it, so why worry about it.

To understand that it might exist or might not exist is enough. We can deal with it when it is revealed. In fact, today is a different reality than yesterday and we can be sure that tomorrow will be a different reality than today.

There is a saying in Buddhism: "The present moment is my Guru!" This means that we observe the present, accept it as real, deal with it, and learn from it. If our perceptions contradict our expectations, then we need to change our expectations.

This is the problem with dogma. Dogmas say that we need to change our perceptions to meet our expectations. Dogma is the enemy of growth.

If we believe absurdities, we shall commit atrocities.--Voltaire.

"To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason is like administering medicine to the dead." --Thomas Paine.
