As a former Catholic I have to say that is one if the most desturbing observances of Good Friday I have ever heard about. Even when I was a practicing believer it made me go WTF are they thinking.

You have to give that guy some credit. He immolated himself to protest the Vietnam war. So here you have a religious 'extremist' who is killing someone as an act of protest, and the person he kills is himself. He didn't bomb a tube station, a bus, a school; or hijack an airplane. He didn't do this for the endorphin high of being closer to god or for the adoration and respect of his fellow believers. He had a conviction so strong that he thought it was worth dying for, and he did so in such a way as to not harm anyone else. Whatever else may have motivated him, whatever other delusions he bought into; in the end he harmed no one but himself, and he do so in an effort to help others.

I wish they were all so considerate.

If God is real, I bet he looks at this and facepalms.

The religion of one age, is the literary entertainment of the next.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I did not read the story but I gather this is in the Phillipines.

Yeah, the Phillipines has a lot of history dealing with Roman legions. Facepalm

Recently suffered loss of intelligence. Had little to begin with! I should not miss it.

Took me a bit to find this House quote. Wished I could find a video clip of it.

Quote:Dr. Gregory House: The point is to suffer like your savior did, right? Well, he didn't take myrrh, the Tylenol of ancient Rome. And his nails went through his wrists, not through his palms. Palms are for sissies. And what about the 39 lashes and the beatings and the crown of thorns? What you go through is closer to a bad manicure than a crucifixion.

Of course he is, because he didn't die for our sins; he died for our spins.

After sitting through "Jesus Camp" last night, my mind instantly goes to the kids who must be feeling the pressure to grow up and get involved in this. I saw an executive from Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America give an interview recently. In it, he said something like, "All kids have mentors - whether they're the corner drug dealers, lousy fathers, vapid reality television stars, or whatever. We're in the bad mentor replacement business."

I think, as people who respect science and rationality, we need to find a way to do the same.

Stay strong today, forum brothers and sisters. Facebook is going to be on fire with the "he is risen" nonsense!

Thank god for the "I don't want to see this" option.

We have enough youth. How about looking for the Fountain of Smart?
