RE: Did I do right?
KC I think what you did was brave. The memory of not doing anything wouid have been far worse.

You'll have to trust me on this. Hug

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

I chambered the bullet beforehand so the noise wouldn't startle her.

I petted her head until she laid down on her own. I never forced her.

I shot her in the back of the head when she was turned away so she wouldn't be scared that I was pointing something at her.

I softly held her down and braced her so she didn't move and possibly mess up my shot.

I did it at point blank because I wanted to make absolutely sure I hit her square.

I shot her again in the head to ensure death right after the first shot.

It is a lot different shooting a domestic animal at close range. It's really haunting.

So quicker and less traumatic for the cat then taking it to a vet to be injected, which is what people do when they have an animal whose suffering needs to come to an end.

I like this. Sort of a rational invocation of karma.

KC acted to the best of his ability to decrease suffering. I'm not a fatalist, but the cat was lucky in that if it had to be hit by a car, it happened near someone compassionate enough to make a tough choice and provide comfort to it.

...

So one was deprived of life and now other animals were deprived of food?!?

Are you single-handedly trying to destroy the ecosystem in your area?

In terms (Buddhist ones) of alleviating suffering, you did the right thing.

The cat is now in a better place.

Dodgy

Sure. Worm food or rat food it makes no difference to the dead.

Just pointing out the inherent silliness of the burial ritual thing.

Agreed. Soon the world will be wall to wall cemeteries and shopping centres.

Sounds like a backdrop to a zombie movie.

RE: Did I do right?
I have a wormery in the cellar. I use it for almost all my kitchen waste. I've just taken out the bottom tray which I started over a year ago. It all looks like lovely stuff with only a single worm still hanging around (all his mates have moved up in the world and are eating out in the upper trays). I shall now put it on the depleted soil of some superhot chilli plants that I over-wintered, then take the plants off to my parent's house in the north of Germany where the neighbour keeps stealing fruit from their garden.

So don't diss worm food.
