Digging to China.
When I was a kid I can remember hearing several times being told that if I were to dig through the earth I would eventually wind up in China. Other Americans have heard the same, I'm sure. Forget if it's even possible or not, is it true? Well, the answer is no. Unless you live on the Montana Canada border, where you have a very small island where you may wind up in if your very lucky, you will wind up in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Here is a nifty Antipode Map that uses Google Earth. Where do you wind up at digging straight through the earth?

RE: Digging to China.
Santiago, Chile gets you right into central China. A bit of Paraguay could get you to Taiwan.

Me, I'm in the Indian Ocean, about a billion miles from any significant landmass, but not too far (by boat, I sure couldn't swim it) due north of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. I better take a life raft and some scuba gear along with my shovel, it's gonna get really wet once I'm done digging and break through into the bottom of the Indian Ocean.

Apparently I land pretty much smack dab in between North America and Africa.

QUESTIONS:

Assuming the tunnel was lined with some sort of material that prevented collapse due to tectonic shifting, and magma:

What would the air pressure be like at the core?
What would the ambient heat be like at the core?

I'm more interested about the gravity.

Wouldn't I just endlessly go between the two ends? *you know, assuming away those annoying things like rotation

QUESTIONS:

Why is poolboy so obsessed with posing questions?
Is it something about the question mark that he finds irresistible?
If yes - what exactly? Consider

I land between Australia and South America. And subsequently drown.

Not if you pop up from digging down through.
Just before you dig UP into the water, you would stop, and think, "oh wait, what happens when the water fills in", and then you would go back through your tunnel, and get some gear, or dig into one of the alien pod spheres, and after you knock and ask them if they want to buy a Watchtower, they would have you come in and stay for dinner, or at least some tea.
