Do you believe in bad omens? Do you ever do rituals before an event?

It's actually kind of funny what psychologists have discovered when doing these sorts of "superstition" tests on humans.

One experiment involved the pulling of a lever and a subsequent "prize". The prize was set at random, but the subjects began to notice that it didn't matter if the lever was pulled or not; because other actions - like touching their elbow or a part of the table - would coincide with the winning of the prize.

One woman had to stop the experiment early because she had worn herself out by jumping to touch the ceiling repeatedly in order to get the prize.

It's almost disturbing how gullible and easily-manipulated we are. Patternicity at it's finest (or worst?).

Through profound pain comes profound knowledge.
