They don't consider Jesus to be a god or son of a god.

Minor cosmetics.
Muslims consider Jesus a prophet, the greatest prophet of the Abrahamic tradition, with the exception of Muhammad, who has near god-like status, and is actually sitting at Allah's right hand side in paradise.
No 72 virgins for Muhammad under Allah's watchful eye: he's had his quota, and then some, on Earth already.

RE: Do you consider Mormonism "Christian"?
I think if you follow the bible, that makes you a Christian. If you believe in Jesus, that makes you a Christian. It's not a very well-defined word, though... these are just my subjective ideas of Christianity.

Despite the fact that there are a lot of reasons to reject the Book of Mormon and John Smith, it seems to me that there's no strong reason to believe that the bible can't be added to or that new prophets can't arise. Revelation didn't finish with "The End" and there's nothing in the bible telling us when there will be an end to prophecy. It would appear that tradition is the most compelling reason to think that the bible is "finished".

My girlfriend is mad at me. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried cooking a stick in her non-stick pan.

I don't think they're Christian any more than the Branch Dividians were Christians. They are a religion--that's for sure. But they are not Christian.

Having said that, I have no earthly idea what a Christian is.

RE: Do you consider Mormonism "Christian"?
No, I don't think Mormons are Christians. I grew up with friends who were Mormon (in the 1960's), when I asked them and others in their ward if they were Christians they didn't know what a Christian even was. At that time Mormons were Mormons and Christians were Christians and they were not the same thing at all.
They have adapted some of the buzz words (however they often have different meanings for them) since the mid 1960's or so. Most Mormons would know what the word Christian means now, and probably claim to be one. Their world view is very different from so-called main stream Christianity though......

I've gone from classifying each sect, to calling it all theology. It's all the same, some words moved around, different "prophets" all claiming some secret knowledge.

They can have their infighting.

I never doubt the intelligence of theists anymore until it comes to the claim of one true. Everything remains copacetic until it is weighed against another. How can one thing seem so silly to a group, and yet other things not?

How is Joesph Smith any crazier than Mohammed? Or Scientology any nuttier than Christianity? That's when I go... You so silly.
Just want you to know I didn't need to use the dictionary to know what "copacetic" was.

Ok.....I'm lying (LOL)...nice word.

Yeah...all the religious dogmas are bat shit crazy.

And we run the risk that one of those idiots gets into the White House! We had a clown before, who bankrupted the country and the world, so it's not impossible at all!

However, Obama has done well for his masters in the past 4 years. He has proven to be a reliable puppet. It's easiest to 're-elect' him so that's what they'll do.

It's ok Mark, I spelled it wrong the first time.

RE: Do you consider Mormonism "Christian"?
Ah, I've actually changed stance on this issue many times.

Well here is what I know:
It pisses me off when one religion calls another a "cult" and instantly opens that asshole to an attack from me. A fairly strong and vicious attack which resembles a sneeze in the way that I can't stop it.
Christians have been so sloppy about who is a "real" Christian and who isn't that quite frankly their opinion is irrelevant. They lump themselves with ALL religions against Atheists, so they can go fuck themselves.

Now the Book of Mormon by itself does not make it a separate religion, it's the regard that they hold it, and their religious practices.
Muslims are generally not considered Christians and they hold the bible as mostly true, and Christians are not considered Jews and they hold the Old Testament as entirely true. I think what makes the contrast is that they hold the newest book(s) as more important than their predecessors. So I guess this begs the questions, which do the Mormons use more? Their Book, the New Testament, or the Old Testament. From personal experience, I see the book of Mormon as their highest book, so to me, that means that they are descended from Christianity, just like Islam.

Technically they are, they hold the belief in Jesus Christ, the fact that they think he lives on a planet Kolab unimportant.
