Unfettered capitalism also doesn't work as it causes too much damage. As the old joke goes:
Capitalism is a dog-eat-dog system. Communism is the reverse.

What appears to be successful is a moderately socialist society that honors capitalist principles, like those of many European nations.

Canada wasn't largely build by Scots. Initially it was colonized mainly by the French, and in some areas by the British. Although the Scots definitely participated, they did not "largely" build it. I am aware that there have been no successful communist states, it's something I stated in my original post. It is hard to achieve, but it is still possible. Those socialist societies are successful, and they are as close as it comes to communism. Maybe some time in the future, they will take it one step further and convert to communism, but I doubt it will happen any time soon.

The industries and politics of the 19th century were dominated by Scots.
