RE: Does Porn Suck?
I was going to read this entire thread but I decided it would be too much of a waste cause I would say the same thing... I love Porn and I love fantasy rape, S&M, brutal stuff (to some degree) and weird fetish type things... Of course all professional and safe. I am very open minded to porn but I don't like child pornography or beastality. Not my thing... I do enjoy role playing and stuff... Even some extreme role play or some taboo role play. Fantasy is really my thing. I don't know why but it is. I don't think porn is bad or wrong, I think it is escape into a world that many will never have but want. It is a great relief for masturbation. I enjoy it but I don't frequently watch it or buy... Free stuff is awesome! lol

RE: Does Porn Suck?
Continually using the word "sick" when talking about sadism and masochism is hardly defending it. Can you somehow diagnose illness just from knowing that pain tuns someone on in certain situations? Because if you can, you are a pioneer in psychology.

Stark, was that addressed at me because of my last post here? 'Cause that one was a joke and 'sick' modifies defender, not SM, because people were alternately saying I was defending abnormal (not my word) practices and was wrong for claiming BDSM is a paraphilia.

Au contraire, ma cherie. Hug

The Saw films weren't "torture porn". Not in the way that the Hostel films were. Saw was simply a thriller about a serial killer who "kills" his subjects in unique ways (in the interest of NOT taking their lives, by the way). The emphasis is not on enjoying the suffering of the victims; it's on a man who gives people a new perspective in the hope that they'll lead better lives afterward.

I find that it only seems to be the people who can't grasp the deeper meaning who say that the Saw films are "torture porn" or "just sick movies about people suffering". As an aspiring director and story-teller, I find this rather offensive. It reduces an actual, engaging and thought-provoking story to nothing more than mindless stupidity.

Then again, I guess that's why such stories tend to be cult films.

Oh yeah, the Saw movies are way too deep to be grasped by ordinary folks. Deep like a cesspit. And yeah, the audiences loved them the for the deep philosophical questions they raised. Do you honestly believe that?

Salo was considered a masterpiece by many too. Doesn't mean it is one. Or even if it is, it is still sick.

And do you honestly think that the argument "people are too stupid to understand work of art A correctly" is anything more than trying to ascribe more value to your own opinion (and intellect)? What if I said that the deep thought-provoking layers are just to hide yet another layer, which is all about the enjoyment of pain, but people are too stupid to dig this deep?

1) Yes I do. I am one of those people.

2) Never seen it.

3) Given the number of people who pour out their love of the deeper meaning of the film(s), I'd say that it's not merely my own values and opinions that I'm expressing. As for the thought-provoking story only being there to "hide yet another layer, which is all about the enjoyment of pain", I'd say that the writer and director really fucked up; considering the fact that the focus is on the philosophy of Jigsaw, not on the suffering. As I already stated.

Edit: By the way, "do you honestly think that the argument 'Or even if it is, it is still sick.' is anything more than trying to ascribe more value to your own opinion (and intellect)?"
