RE: Does True Love Exist?
Banal it may be but I would say that all love is true. For a time that is.

The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

RE: Does True Love Exist?
Define "true" love. To be honest I don't even know if we can even define "love". We can associate actions, words, or feelings that we pin to the word, but without a homogenized definition, I'm reluctant to even start down the road of "existence".

RE: Does True Love Exist?
Not in the general fairy tale, there's one person who is perfect for you sense, but isn't that great? Fighting every night to fall asleep while Prince Charming snores and steals the covers, being a queen the rest of your life (boringest thing ever), having to pass up dating that huntsman with the broad shoulders…

Volcanic, surprising, inappropriate, over-in-a-flash love: that's fun to experience before the one that sticks. Also fun even if one never finds the one that sticks.

RE: Does True Love Exist?
"...meant to be the love of your life"

I'm not sure what is meant by that. Where does "intentionality" come into it? Whose "intent" is being enacted?

Love is no magical thing. It's a mix of lust, excitement of getting to know someone, excitement/risk of putting yourself out there to be loved or rejected, respect, mutual companionship.
But remember that lust fades with time. The excitement of getting to know someone new changes into familiarity, and the excitement/risk factor is greatly reduced.

It's easy to be carried away at the beginning and takes time to see a "lasting relationship", I feel many people give up too soon, or have a check list which is "unattainable" or perhaps leave a current commitment because they are blinded by the spark of something new (thinking they have found true love and their current relationship mustn't be that because the spark is no longer apparent).

Anyway, love is what YOU make of it. Don't expect perfection, don't look for flaws or seek to blame your partner.

Good point. For purposes of this poll, *true love* is defined as follows:

A love that lasts, a love that is romantic, passionate--where your SO is your best friend. The person you share your dreams with, the person who supports you in your dreams, the person who loves all of you--even the not so perfect parts--and still thinks your amazing anyway--and vice versa for all above points. A person who challenges you but in a good way Tongue A person who makes you want to be better, live better. A person you laugh with. A person you share the good times and bad with. A person who is your rock, just like you are theirs. Someone who picks up where you leave off and vice versa. (think Jerry Maguire "You complete me" Hobo Tongue ) A person you take on the world with.

...And I'm adding in Stevil's part from his post "meant to be the love of your life."

RE: Does True Love Exist?
I have to go with no. Love isn't some grand thing that will happen to you if you just find the right partner. Love is something you have to make an effort to attain and maintain.

OTHER: If by vodka you mean sex, then yes.

No, not romantic love. Romance = lust + needs meeting

I do think that sometimes romance can turn into real love over time but I also think it's more rare than we'd like to admit. That divorce rate is proof of that.

Under this definition I'm sure "love" exists, if even for a fleeting moment. However, I would argue that the chemicals in our brain(s) white wash the above assigned meanings, while we are in the honeymoon phase of our relationships. So we may be experiencing all the above, while we are high on that person but then after some time, as each person changes, it is more difficult to wrap your arms around those ideas. You have to make the effort deliberate, rather than fall prey to the naturalistic fallacy which would state that we could jettison a mate because of our naturalistic tendencies to find other partners after the aforementioned chemicals associated with previous said partner don't give us quite the high that we are used to.

Yes to all of the above except the romance and passion mellows with age. Mainly because it just doesn't seem to be all that important once you are free of the shackles of the hormones related to procreation.
