A single punishment for every transgression is not just.
Punishing an innocent person for somebody else's transgression is not just.
Using a scapegoat to avoid punishment is not just.
Well we must first answer the question of "What is just?".

I'm not pretending that that isn't a slippery question. Recognizing what IS just can be difficult but we are talking about recognizing that something is NOT just. That is generally not as hard. The situation you've described is easily seen to be unjust.

Word games. *yawn*

Not really worth the mental gymnastics to try and justify belief in a mysogynistic sadistic homicidal mythical asshole that sent himself to die as a scapegoat to save people from himself.

How about first prove your God exists. Then we can talk about why such a creature that likes little boy foreskins deserves to be worshipped.

It may be that the Bible weighs sin as equal, and says repent and you're OK. But when a church is actually in charge, that doesn't happen. So again, a case where its followers ignore intent and black letter.

Why do you think the Salem witch trials are so notorious?

Whereas when you push for secular laws, the punishment is dependent upon severity (in theory).

Obviously he didn't like them because he commanded them to be cut off. Shy

Revelation 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

The bible teaches that God is so holy and pure that NOTHING impure can be allowed in his presence. ...period. If you have ever committed a sin you are not by definition "pure".

For a being who is so holy and pure, God certainly does some pretty impure things in the Bible.

Well, he must have commanded the Egyptians to do that first, since the practice of circumcision was practiced by them long before the Jews.

Exactly and circumcision has been documented in other religions as well-why would God allow this if it was a sacred covenant between him and *his* people?

Really? Maybe start with the bears that mauled a group of boys for making fun of a bald guy. I recommend you read a little around this forum though because there is much discussion of this.

edit to add,
or Exodus 12:12,
"On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn - both men and animals - and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD."
Lemme guess, we just have to take that in context?

That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs but what a ship is... what the Black Pearl really is... is freedom. -Jack Sparrow

Or the story of Jephthah in Judges 11 where god accepted, or possibly even arranged, a human sacrifice as payment for military victory.
