Earliest Jesus image found
He has no beard and is short haired but what I find especially interesting is that he's depicted in a philosophers toga which was a very large half-circle and was draped over the shoulders with the tails always held in the left hand and the rest of the material fell down to the ankles. Greek and Roman togas were about 14 feet wide.

Here it is cleaned up.

It looks very similar to another very early 4th century image, also with a philosophers toga.

It's still 400 years after the supposed "event" though. The Shroud of Turin's guy is bearded which fits in with a 12th to 14th century Jesus image.

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

It might have more to do with making Jesus more "Roman" than anything else. In the empire it was seen as unfashionable or shameful for a man to wear a beard. Since they wanted Jesus to appeal to Romans they made him look roman. Just like how later artists make him look like a blue eyed blonde white guy.

Well now we know its bullshit... That cross is never gonna take his weight.

He was a carpenter, he should have pointed out that shoddy Roman joinery...

That would be a funny sketch. Jesus stops carrying the cross stops to points out all the crappy wood work on the cross to one of the Roman soldiers. "Hey don't I deserve some dovetailed joints?! Geesh!"

Actually, somewhere I read that there was a shortage of wood for crosses so the condemned prisoner carried just the upper part the the "t" shape and they would strap it somehow to the vertical piece of wood real quick. I guess after the 5000 slaves that were crucified with Spartacus they ran out of wood.

It was a missed opportunity for Monty Python that...

I've heard that thing about the T shape too... I'm sure I heard the T shape was intentional, the traditional crucifix is shown as a Greek T... But a Roman T is our upper case T.

Yes! I often think about that each time I see long haired jesus. In fact, was it not Jesus who said that? I could be wrong.

The OT says it is a sin to cut your hair.
