Ecuador grants Wikileaks founder asylum
In an interesting twist (after Ecuador revealed that the UK government threatened to remove the diplomatic status of their embassy) Julian Assange: Ecuador grants Wikileaks founder asylum.

The sexual assault charge is a trumped-up claim, purely so as to punish Assange by any means necessary.

I agree that the rape charges against this guy look a little suspicious if the reports about how the two woman acted after the alledged rapes are true, but I am always a bit skeptical about making judgements based on news reports.

RE: Ecuador grants Wikileaks founder asylum
The latest if seen, there are no charges. He's wanted for "questioning".

The government of the UK is threatening the storming of an embassy for "questioning".

Please understand that

1. the embassy is allowing for Assange to be questioned AT the embassy.

2. Assange is willing to go to Sweden to clear his name WITH THE UNDERSTANDING that Sweden or the UK will not extradite him to the US where he can face imprisonment without trial, or execution. That understanding has no been met.

These governments are scared. The organization (wikileaks) headed by Assange has revealed information produced by these governments showing that these governments are implicated in corruption, murder of thousands, and the imprisonment of foreign journalists. The revealed information has aided in the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt. This is serious stuff.

This is not necessarily a means to quiet Assange, but a means of sending a message to other individuals and organizations to shut up.

Assange is, partly, a threat to these governments. But what these governments are truly threatened by, and attempting to prevent in the future, is them becoming held accountable if the masses actually read and understand these revealed documents. That is the threat.

note: when I say government, I mean key government officials, and non governmental officials that influence government policy/elections.

RE: Ecuador grants Wikileaks founder asylum
The Swedish government is looking into allegations of sexual misconduct against Assange. There are no legal charges being pressed right now and no accusations of full forced rape. They simply want to question him.

If you didn't think it was fishy already, Assange has said he is fully willing to cooperate with the questioning if he is promised not to be extradited to the US. The Ecuadorian embassy has actually opened its doors up to Swedish police and invited them to come to the embassy and question Assange there. Neither of those proposals have been accepted and in fact the UK has threatened to storm the Ecuadorian embassy. That's a nearly unheard of tactic and especially in a case comparable to this one.

Have these people not herd of telephones?
Questioning right? Just give the guy a call.

Saw the other day all the South American countries had a little get together to discuss UK's threat to storm the embassy, accusing the UK of colonialism.
